My time as a sandwich artist was a low point in my life. Most of our customers were sandwich dilettantes. Mere dabblers in the form. Our skills were wasted on the gutter palates of our most passionate regulars. Oh, another Cold Cut Combo on white with American, lettuce, tomato, black olives, light mayo, and salt and pepper? How droll. I would have rejoiced at the opportunity to craft such an artful and inventive meal
