#arepas

Hello everyone! Today I am going to show you a very appetizing way to consume rice. And I’m going to prepare some delicious arepas with it. Although arepas are usually prepared with pre-cooked corn flour, these arepas are ideal if you do not have this type of flour, or if you cannot consume corn.

Or to use leftover cooked rice in a delicious way. If you want more ideas on how to use leftover cooked rice, don’t miss this video that I link above. I encourage you right now to subscribe to my channel and turn on notifications. And let’s see how to prepare these cooked rice arepas.

Although this recipe is ideal for using leftover rice, you may want to prepare the rice specifically for this recipe. The first thing you should do, as always when cooking rice, is wash it. Rinse it a couple of times and discard that water.

Now heat two cups of water for each cup of rice used over medium heat, and add a little salt. Depending on the variety of rice you use, you may need to add a little more water. Cook over medium heat until the water has

Been absorbed and the grain is tender. Remove from heat, cover, and let cool. Once the rice is cold, start preparing the arepas. I recommend that the rice be completely cold since when it is hot it is stickier and the dough is soft.

Grind the rice. You can do it with a food processor, with a fork…. Or as I am going to do, with a mash raisin. If you do it with a fork you must be patient

And mash the rice grains as best as possible. It’s going to take you a little bit of time, yes. Once you have crushed the rice, form the dough into a ball using a spatula or greased hands. And divide it into portions. For

Every cup of rice you get about 6 arepas. With your hands lightly oiled, take one of the portions and form a ball. Now turn the ball between the palms of your hands and flatten it until you have a disk about 1 centimeter thick.

Give a nice shape to the edges, and place it on a plate greased with a little oil. If you don’t want to use oil, you can moisten your hands so the dough doesn’t stick. Once you have your arepas formed, heat a thick-bottomed frying pan over

Medium-high heat. I have the kitchen in position 7 of the 9 it has. If the pan is hot enough the arepas should not stick even without adding oil. But lightly oiling the pan makes them brown a little more. I

Only grease where I am going to put the arepas. Once it is hot, place the arepas on it and cook between 5 and 10 minutes, until the side in contact with the pan acquires brown specks. Turn over and cook on the other

Side for another 5 or 10 minutes. And when you have them ready, remove them to a plate. Now that the arepas are sealed, it is necessary to finish cooking them. The

Normal thing is to do it in the oven at 200ºC for 10 minutes. But if you are going to prepare just a couple, you can do it in the toaster like I am going to do. You save time and energy. Place in the toaster and toast until slightly puffed.

Depending on the power of your toaster, you should toast them 2 or 3 times in a row. Remove from the toaster or oven, and being careful not to burn yourself, as very hot steam will come out, open the side with a knife to form a kind of bag.

Look how they turn out, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. If you want them drier on the inside, you should make them thinner. And all that’s left to do is fill it however you like! With cheese, avocado… You can also consume it at any time of the day.

Although I am Spanish, I often have arepas for breakfast, I love them! And these rice arepas are a fabulous alternative to corn arepas. They are very good! And just for today, I’m going to eat my arepitas, I’m looking forward to it. And

I hope you are encouraged to prepare the same ones at home. Greetings to all!
