I got this at H Mart. It was hot and just made and smelled great. It has a sweet smell but also smells a bit like sourdough. It also has the texture of sourdough bread a bit with it being dense but airy. I believe the corner of it has raisins on it

술빵. Booze bread.
This is called “sul ppang” or “rice wine bread.” The sourdough smell comes from the rice wine. Usually it is white, but maybe they added something to this one, like pumpkin? It’s one of my favorites.
It’s a steamed bread or cake made with an alcohol, usually makgeolli or rice wine, known as ‘sool (alcohol) bbang (bread/cake). If you want to read about it (or make it in the future, [Maangchi has a good explanation](https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/sulppang)
WHICH HMART IS THIS
It says 술빵 on the label (sool ppang) like everyone says but it’s actually called 술떡 (sool tteok/alcohol rice cake) and it’s formal name is 증편 (jeung pyun). It’s a rice cake you make with makgeolli. It smells like sourdough a bit bc makgeolli has yeast in its microbiome. So it gets those air bubble like sourdough and is fluffy.
It’d not hard to make but you need non pasteurized makgeolli which is hard to get. Even then “live” makgeolli is flash pasteurized. Mt mom used to make the makgeolli herself so she could make it.
Prefer 술떡 but they are both slightly sweet.
