I had the opportunity to check out the soft opening of the long-awaited Hattie B’s and they’re a welcome addition to the city.

The fried chicken has a nice crisp outside, yet tender hot inside. Despite the food being out for about 10 minutes while I captured some shots, the consistency remained as such which I appreciate. It didn’t have the weird soft breaded outside nor did it break apart when taking bites, so the structural integrity was on point.

I opted for the medium spice level which I found to be the perfect level of heat, yet remain enjoyable to continue further.

They offer Belgian-style waffles that you can pair with the tenders and I desired more out of those – the waffles were too dense for my liking – though that’s personal preference. The peach cobbler dessert also just didn’t do it for me because you just finish eat a nice hot meal and I felt that continuing that through dessert is not the move. If so, at least get a scoop of ice cream to contrast.

Overall, I had a great time. Are they better than Tumble 22? Yes. In fact, this spot reminds me of the times of when Tumble 22 was just a small little food truck on 6th. Good times.

Anyways, the open air space is gonna be a big hit and for the locals, make sure to check out the Maria mural in the back. Cool touch for those that know.

I understand that this is a soft opening and that your experience may vary, so feel free to leave your reviews in the days to come when they open officially on Wednesday 2/28!
