

First time making Mayak eggs. I used soy sauce, dark soy sauce, garlic, garlic chives, sugar, Serrano peppers (and a little gochugaru since I didn’t have fresh red peppers), and water. Two marinated eggs over hot rice with sesame oil and seeds.
Honestly I think I prefer a savory marinated egg like Maangchi’s version of Gyeran-jangjorim. I didn’t particularly like the sugar in the Mayak recipe (I even used 1/2 as much as recommended). I mean it’s tasty, but I don’t think I would make that same recipe again.
Are they all sweet? I’m sure there are variations. Anyone have a favorite egg marinade?

Do you like Chinese tea eggs? You can marinate rather than simmer the eggs if you prefer. Tea eggs are my favorite.
