Saw this in a Walmart and have to ask if this is any good since my family gets put in charge of cooking some meat in a mountain region near a church.

Those are super cheap grills that will fall apart after a year.
If that suits your purpose, go for it!

It’ll cook, it just won’t last. That’s the beauty of charcoal. If all you need to do is grill then 20 minutes with some scrap metal, an old Corolla rim and a welder gets you a useable grill.
So this will cook burgers and dogs just as well as a Weber Kettle. But it’ll blow over and warp in it’s first storm.
Glittering_Spot2498
The grill is super Close to the charcoal not much room for indirect cooking.
fuckitweredoingitliv
Good for burgers and hotdogs that’s about it.
An_Average_Man09
Just look for a Weber kettle on Facebook Marketplace, they can usually be found sub $100. For example, just found a lightly used one for $25 in my area.

Cheap, decent. Won’t last and you won’t be able to cook the way you may want to cook on it. Charcoal is too close to the meat.
Really burgers and hot dogs are fine. Maybe searing a steak and such.
I’d get something better used and in good condition from someone on meth instead of this.
But! It’s not bad. It’s a box and a grate and really that’s all you need to cook.
SomeGuy2088
Good for basic grilling. You won’t be able to get fancy with this one. Burgers, dogs, anything direct heat cooking can make. No ribs or indirect slow and low cooking in this. That’s why it’s cheap.
maniacal_monk
It’ll work but won’t last long even with care and from what I’ve seen not good for smoking or indirect because of how close the grates are. I see them as a good way to find out if you even enjoy grilling, but not a long term investment
charles_47
Save yourself the disappointment and just get a Weber
Jakefrmstatepharm
They’re decent beginner grills. I used one of these for 2 solid years when I was learning to grill on charcoal. When it died I went with a Weber Performer. The airflow sucks on them though and your charcoal will struggle to burn with the lid closed. If you have a little extra cash, go with a standard weber kettle.
johngoodmansscrote
I bought one of those and the paint caught on fire and burned off the first time i used it. After that it grilled ok i guess.

It’s good enough for its stated purpose. You don’t want this as your everyday grill, but for camping, tailgates, etc, it will get the job done.
That said, I wouldn’t want to grill for more than 8-10 people on something this small.
Captainpaul81
I’ve had one for about 5 years. I grill around 10 times a year during the season and it’s lasted. I could probably get a couple more years out of it but I’m going to upgrade to a Weber kettle this year. I’ve gotten my money’s worth
I grill chicken, hotdogs and burgers on it primarily

As a grill? Just fine. The food you make will taste no different than if you made it in a $5000 Kamado. People grill over camp fires. People grill on those big rusty stationary park grills. Some people even grill on *gas* grills. You can 100% do two zone cooking on it, by shoving half the coals to one side. It will last you one season, maybe two if you really baby it. A Weber will last you 5-10 years if you ignore it, and a lifetime if you baby it.
As a low and slow roaster/smoker? Not so great. It’s true that people smoke over all kinds of things… people smoke over a campfire with some strategically placed sticks. People smoke by digging a hole in the ground. People smoke in cabinets. A ton of people smoke on their weber kettles. But those all account for airflow, and having the vents across the front and the exhaust dead center will work against you. I’m not saying you can’t do it; I’ve smoked on an $8 clearance weber-knock-off, but the grill will be working against you here.

I found something similar at Lowe’s but it was much better. Because it had a temperature gauge at the same price point. I’d use this one too though. You can cook with it.

Why are you using the word “good” anywhere near this grill
BigTicket615
I have one similar to this that comes in handy for cooking sides. My smoker gets the ribs and chicken, then for corn or something like that, I use this. For that price, you’ll get enough use out of it.
SausageKingOfKansas
You get what you pay for.

They’re shit

I’ve been using one of these for a couple of years and it’s still in mint condition. I don’t leave juices and oils in it, scrape it after every use and store it in my garage once the coals have died and have been safely removed. Cooks steaks, hot dogs, burgers, pork chops, kabobs, chicken quarters indirectly for an hour, pretty much anything except for smoking and slow cooking. It has it’s limitations but you can do a lot with it if you know what you’re doing. Make sure to purchase a charcoal chimney as well. Fluid bad.
Dogfishhead789
I would not recommend it.Buddy of mine got one and when grilling the paint started coming off on the food.
Mountain_Chain8764
Just get a kettle and buy once
CyrptoGas31
I’ve made brisket/ribs steaks burgers you name it on that exact grill truth is you will only get about a year off of it that’s is correct but it is solid for taking to the mountains to get something done quickly if you want something to last as previous comments suggested Weber kettle is the way to go! Good luck happy camping!!
tssparky
It’s a grill you use until you get a proper Weber or whatever. Maybe you take it to the beach for a day or two, but don’t expect it to last more than a year.
rks1743
My kids have a music festival/cookout at the end of the school year. I told my son to leave it at school after they were finished.
mjking97
Fucking terrible but if you just need it for a couple uses it’ll work fine!
Nuremborger
Keep it out of the rain and that’ll hold up for years. You’ll be replacing the grate sometime sooner than later because the one it’ll come with is garbage.
It’ll work just fine though. Anyone trying to say your won’t be able to make kickass food on even a cheapo charcoal grill is dumb and doesn’t know what they’re talking about.
Source: was poor for first 2/3 of my life. Made kickass food on cheapo grills for literal decades.
