I ordered the “classic” burger, I believe that is what they call it. It was SUPER under seasoned. All the ingredients tasted super fresh and high quality but there was a huge lack of basic seasoning. I feel like they just forgot to hit it with the S&P. It was that bland.
Also the burger sauce (1000 island) was very very thin. It started dripping off the burger and making a mess right away. That sauce needs to be thicker, it was borderline watery. Another huge miss. Did I get unlucky or are these complaints that anyone else has experienced?
I’ll go back for one more shot for sure because it’s really unfathomable how under seasoned everything was. Dude working was super friendly and gave me a free burger sauce even though I tried everything to pay for it…

They’ve fallen off a bit since adding new locations IMO. They have not been very consistent during my last few visits to the Chinatown location :/
Huh I’ve only been to the Chinatown location and if anything ive found their patties over seasoned by just a tiny bit.
I’m more concerned about the cheese being completely unmelted
Did you mention to the owner? I’m not sure if he’s there all the time but every time I was there I’ve seen him.
I’ve only had the Woodland Hills / Topanga location (which is a ghost kitchen operation) and that was underwhelming. The seasoning was fine and overall it was good but not great. A little on the dry side.
The DH burger was my favorite in LA. It was 16 at Chinatown. Then they added the Woodland Hills location and it jumped to 21, and wasn’t as good even though it was still amazing.
Not sure I’d order anything else from them, as a butcher they do the thicker meat better
I was there 2 days ago and ordered the same thing and was disappointed as well! Thought it was just me.
I was there 3 months ago and it was really good. Maybe chalk it up to a bad day?
Amboy has been my single greatest disagreement with food writers, editors, influencers, and this sub, since the day it opened.
This is not a recent ‘falling off’. They have ALWAYS had drastically underseasoned burgers and it has been perpetually confusing to me why the place gets so much love, I think it’s just because people like Alvin.
But being in the ex chego space and having so little seasoning feels like a punch in the gut.
Nah honestly Amboy has been overrated and hyped since pre-Covid. Their burgers really aren’t anything special
I went there 2 years ago really excited to finally try the famous amboy burger and excited for my boyfriend who loves burgers to try it. Had the same reaction. Was super drippy messy but felt dry at the same time. And def under seasoned.
I was shocked to see frozen fries!!
Not a fan of the way they re did their menu or the $4.58 side of ranch. Super crazy. I miss when they sold steaks that’s for sure
Sounds like the norm now based on posts here.
Just go to in and out instead
Try Trophies on Fairfax, Chef Geo and his team make a delicious burger
Most overrated burger in recent memory. Under seasoned. DRY-ASS bun with way too many sesame seeds. Like, that fucking bun is a crime in and of itself, nevermind the patty.
Best two burgers I’ve had are from For The Win in Hollywood or Burnin Daylight brewery in Lomita.
Eating at Amboy was such an insult to me and my wallet. None if their food looked like the pictures. It was tiny, cold, and stale.
You guys realize it’s ok to disagree, right? So odd that there have been countless Amboy posts with nearly unanimous agreement in the comments, then suddenly one anti-Amboy post happens and dozens of comments come out of the woodworks.
I have no idea why amboy gets praise. I think it might be a lottery trying to get decent food from there as I’ve always gotten bland tasting crap but others have said it’s very good. I’ll stick to my local smash burger joint
Never had a bad experience with Amboy, just had it last week. Always ordered through an app too. Guess I’m just lucky.
It’s not that good in general IMO.
Sounds about right to me. Good quality, but overall, nothing that great.
I had an amazing and surprisingly good burger at Goldburger on Vermont last week. I asked for it medium rare and had the onions grilled. Delicious!
Good thing they just slapped that slice of cheese on once the burger was at your table. If they’re not careful that slice of cheese will actually get hot and melt!
