Nothing. I avoid upcharge items completely. its already at a premium, to spend 16extra is absurd. absolutely absurd.

It’s the suckers tax to subsidize all us poors who play the promo game.

Honestly? Probably there’s an ingredient in there which they don’t use for any of the other meals, and thus do not get as good of a bulk order discount. For example, assuming the waffles come as is and you just have to warm them up, ordering them might be an additional cost over what their usual cost is. Or perhaps the red pepper butter, never seen that one before! Or both! Plus the extra cost required to source these items, set up the chain to get it to their warehouses, etc.
Or maybe they got in some new blood to create a bunch of new recipes, and that extra cost is something they’re passing on to the customer?
I’m not saying these definitely are the reasons but do keep in mind there’s always stuff going on behind the scenes of a company that the customers have no idea about lol.

I always think they slap premium onto some dishes to see if people will upgrade cause I’ve seen similar dishes (not sure how off they are) posted a bit after without the upcharge.

This drives me nuts!

I saw this one and wanted to order but refused to pay the up charge x4. If I’m already at $40/meal and then have to pay an extra $36… for $76 I could go out to eat and not have to cook at all.

The calorie count, obviously.

Surcharges are why I canceled.

This is why we cancelled and haven’t gone back. Well… that and the nasty 50% fat ground beef.

Nothing. Tried a promo box a month or two ago and I would never pay full price for this service. The dishes are nothing special. Mostly cheap filler ingredients and charging a premium for it. The recipes are cool though. If anyone reading this thinks about trying hellofresh I’d at most suggest a promo box and then just try using their recipes with store bought ingredients.
