Hey folks today I’m going to try and recreate a really awesome barbecue sauce this is the blu’s hog honey barbecue honey mustard barbecue sauce and um it’s getting really hard to find I used to could find in my local grocery store but they stopped carrying it so I got to

Figure out how to make this now it’s it’s really good it’s really sweet it’s got a great um mustard honey flavor so here’s the ingredients that are listed on it mustard and uh this is the French’s Mustard is exactly has the exact same ingredients that they call for because

For the mustard they call for distilled vinegar water Mustard Seed salt turmeric paprika spice natural flavor garlic powder and I’m going to use some honey this is a local honey and I love I love the the name of this it’s called good bees this is actually made in Round Rock which is

Just around the corner from us got some garlic powder some ground black pepper now they just called for spices they did not call for black pepper but you can tell by looking at it that it does have some coarse black pepper in it so I’m going to go with some coarse black

Pepper got some chili powder some tomato ketchup some moer sour sauce some apple cider vinegar some brown sugar some white cane sugar some salt and one of the ingredients I was really surprised is vanilla extract so let me get all this proportioned out and uh let’s start making this barbecue sauce

So stay tuned let’s get this barbecue sauce started so I have here a cup of the prepared mustard and I would think that this is probably the mustard that Blues hog uses uh just like the regular yellow ballar mustard so there’s a cup of mustard a half a cup of

Honey yeah this has a really great sweet honey flavor a/4 cup of Ketchup a/4 cup of apple cider vinegar a tablespoon of Wier sauce a/4 cup of packed brown sugar and here I have a teaspoon of coarse ground black pepper a teaspoon of chili powder a teaspoon of kosher salt a/4 teaspoon of garlic powder and a tablespoon or a teaspoon of granulated

Sugar or just regular cane Su and to this I’m going to add like a drop of vanilla extract that’s it okay I’m going to bring this up to a simmer I’m not going to bring this up to a boy I’m going to bring it up to a

Simmer let it simmer for a while oh one thing I forgot is water you need a/4 cup of water cuz that’ll help dissolve those sugars so there’s 1/4 cup of water so stay tuned and and see how this turns out see if I can come close to the blues

Hog that’s been a low Slimmer low Slimmer a low simmer for 30 minutes and I’ve U just used my whisk kind of keep whisking it to break up the uh mustard and and incorporate the the brown sugar and everything and uh I think it’s about ready to just let it cool down

Let me try this give it a taste see if I need to adjust anything no I think that’s pretty darn spot on okay I’m going to let this cool and give it a side by side comparison with the the blues hog actually I started looking at this

Comparing it to the blues hog the blues hog is darker so I’m going to add another 1/4 of a cup of ketchup so I’m just going to let this simmer for a little while longer and then I’ll do my comparison so please stay tuned okay after about 10 minutes of

Simmering just wanted to get that that extra ketchup cooked in there and whisk it up really good the color looks really good so I’m just going to let this cool and then do a side by side comparison with the blues hog so definitely we want to stay tuned for

This okay sauce is done so let’s do a side by side comparison and taste test this is the blues hog and this is my clone version they do look very similar very very similar I have a little bit more um of course black pepper but that’s okay so I like black

Pepper it’s Blues hog is just a little bit darker but they could be because this has been you know this was made God knows how long ago and it’s been in the refrigerator for a while and it’s allowed to really all those flavors to really mingle and uh this is the sauce

That I just made today it hasn’t had that time to really you know let the flavors merry but I think this is really close if you look at the the texture the consistency very similar you know it’s nice and thick it’s not too thick it’s not too

Thin let’s see what it tastes like I’m just going to take a sample taste on my finger with this with mine very good nice mustard flavor really sweet nice and sweet but not overly sweet with the the honey and the brown sugar and the the white cane sugar and this is the blues

Hog very similar flavor to tell you the truth I like mine better they very similar this has a nice sweet mustard flavor but it also has like a little bit of an aftertaste taste that mine doesn’t have and to tell you the truth I like that little bit of extra black pepper

Flavor yep okay I’m calling this a success I think my clone of the Blues hog honey mustard barbecue sauce is actually better than Blues hog so there you have it if you like this if you like this video please click the thumbs up leave a comment if you’d like I’ll

Definitely answer you and please subscribe so you can see more of this kind of stuff thanks

  1. I have never had the Blues Hog BBQ Sauce, but I can tell by your ingredients that you have made a Tasty BBQ Sauce! Just to let you know you did not list the Apple Cider Vinegar in your ingredient list in your description.

  2. Well done Tom! It's always rewarding knowing that you've achieved something close or if not better to the original source or recipe. Looks really yum. I love the colour of your BBQ sauce.

  3. Ok Tom, I just Favorited this video, because I'm gonna come back to this in the near future and make your version of it, and use on one of my bbq videos.  It sure did look very similar, and looked really good.

  4. Oh wow. I'm not certain, but I may have caught a glimpse of Blues Hog while we were checking out a new Ma & Pa type grocery store today. Guess I should have watched this video before we left the house. It really doesn't matter now though… We have this video to guide us to a better Blues Hog!

  5. Sure looks the same from here, Tom. I've had Blues Hog sauces but not the honey mustard. I'll just have to try your clone recipe. Thanks.
    Regards, Gary

  6. I think you should do more of these "Clone" type recipes. Your sauce did look better and you did a very good job explaining the differences in flavors. Well done brother!

  7. Looks great! Never made a mustard based sauce like that before. I will be trying this. Just made a blackberry bbq sauce a few weeks ago. Check it out on my channel of ya like.

  8. Tom, this sauce looks amazing.  I love BH sauces but have never actually had their Honey Mustard…just their Original and the Tennessee Red.  I'm gonna make a batch of this and try it on some ribs this Sat.  Thanks for sharing my man!

  9. Thanks for the great video. I really look forward to giving this a try. What type of meats would you suggest with this sauce, besides chicken of course.

  10. Hi Tom
Just cooked your clone sauce. It's great and tasty. I love it. My sweet honey too. Complimenti!

  11. Made it and turned out great! Never had it before, but it was a sure fire winner here..and the kids loved it! My son swears he could drink it!! Thanks Tom!

  12. Just saw your video from a link on yahoo! Great job on the video very well done by the way!! I made your version tonight with a little Cayenne pepper added and man I have to tell you, it's amazing! If you would like to make some more clone videos there's a pretty good BBQ sauce back where I am originally from in southern Ohio that I can't find here in California. I would love to see if you could clone it and I could possibly send you a bottle from my reserve stash if it's not in your area.

  14. I made this sauce tonight and it's awesome!  Thank you for posting this because this sauce is my families favorite for BBQ chicken.  We are from Kansas City and live in Florida now.  I have been buying this sauce at a local meat market for $6 a bottle for a while.  Now I can just make it at home for much less.  Thank you!

  15. One secret they don't tell you is sweet and sour sauce.i made yours with this an it's dead on!!

  16. so, just so everyone knows, I am sitting here with Bill Arnold, aka mr. blues hog himself, and he almost peeing himself laughing at how wrong these all are….. you still haven't gotten one single 'secret ingredient' right, and as far as yours being better, then why is his in the mustard hallmof fame and yours isnt??

  17. I know this is an old video, but the recipe is decent. I made your version about 4 years ago and found that the vinegar was too sharp for my taste buds. I added about 2 tablespoons of molasses, and it calmed down the vinegar. Also darkened it up a little, and shined it too.

    Thanks for the video!
