Hoping this is a safe place to ask this question. I asked in pregnancy forums and on Facebook and noone seems to be korean or even know what it is. It is so light and semi bland without strong smell, which is perfect for me at the moment with my nausea and vomiting. I hope someone can help. It isn’t known to cause contractions is it?

  1. I can’t imagine there’s anything in toasted rice that would be teratogenic or cause any sort of adverse effect.

Should be totally fine to eat.

Really, the major Korea food to avoid is red bean, which is actually dangerous for the fetus. Besides that, high Mercury fish isn’t great, and obviously avoid undercooked fish/meat due to the potential of food poisoning.

My wife is pregnant (and Korean.) Congrats!

Obviously don’t eat anything burnt, but nooroongji is just the Maillard reaction, or basically the rice version of toast. In a Spanish paella, they call it the socorrat.

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. But like always nooroongji and rice in general is just pure carbs/starches which isn’t great on its own. Remember to eat a well balanced diet despite those cravings. Best of luck to you and your baby!
