I love this recipe (I usually add some lemon and garlic) especially with how quick and easy it is but I want to see how much better I can make it. I’m thinking of maybe adding some fresh herbs just before I blend it or maybe adding another crispy topping. What would you do to elevate this dish?
Edit: I really appreciate the comments, appreciate the serious advice but y’all are also making me laugh a lot

The classic: higher quality ingredients. Better cheese and bacon?
Make a real [soubise](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soubise_sauce)?
If you’re looking to make it *look* a whole lot fancier, in addition to better quality ingredients and dressing it with fresh herbs, I’d recommend a quick herb oil you can drizzle on top and some toasted breadcrumbs
Artichoke hearts?
3 kilos of truffle.
Asparagus
Sub pancetta for the bacon
I would toast some panko breadcrumbs in either olive oil or butter. A finely chopped anchovy fried in the butter until it starts to melt before you add the breadcrumbs is nice , and it doesn’t taste like anchovy. If you really love garlic, you can cook some minced garlic with/instead of the anchovy. Toss in some chopped parsley at the end.
Fresh English peas would be an amazing in this.
I’m not sure it elevates but it gives it another element.
I grind nuts and breadcrumbs in a spice grinder, toast them in a pan and then add on top of my pasta.
You can get creative and fancy by using higher end nuts such as pistachios or different colour notes that pops on the sauce that you’re using
You could lean into the spring-ness and add peas, fava beans, asparagus, and/or morel mushrooms.
You could lean into the herbaceousness and add chives, parsley, thyme.
You could lean into allium-ness and add leeks, sweet onions, pearl onions, shallots, raw or roasted garlic.
You could lean into the Italian-ness and swap the bacon for pancetta or spicy italian sausage, crushed red pepper, oregano, a little orange zest, and some mascarpone or a dollop of ricotta.
But no matter what, I think this would immediately be improved with some panko breadcrumb crunchyness.
If you want something crispy on top, what about fried shallots?
That’s one of my favorite recipes… not sure it needs to be elevated tbqh.
