Not sure if this is the right sub for this post.

I’ve used grills plenty but I’ve never owned and needed to care for one. This is a hand me down from a friend who said he kept it for 5 years after he assembled it but never used it.

Rust around the majority of corners and edges but not a significant amount, the right most side of the grill has the most rust.

Smoker, grill, and sear station seem to be in good condition. Hooked up a propane tank, everything works on all settings. Thermostats work as well.

Mostly just spider webs and rust. What’s the best way to clean this up, top to bottom, without damaging any parts of the grill?

I’d say just a regular hose and soap.

    Also: Hell yeah.

Maybe write a letter to apologize for letting it rot

Cup brush on a drill for the rust. Wipe down really well with isopropyl and then give it a quick coating with high temp paint. Auto supply stores often have paints that can handle really high temps.

  4. Don’t worry about the exterior, fire it up, getting it ripping hot, and then cook on it. Anything on the inside will burn off. If you are really concerned with the exterior, prep the rusty spots real well and throw a little high temp paint on them. From the photos though I wouldn’t for even a second be concerned about using it as is.

  5. Looks pretty great for sitting for 5 years. Mine gets dirty as shit sitting over the winter with a water proof cover on it.

After you clean it up, get a cover for it.

I wouldn’t do a thing to it, the main components inside look great. You should be able to use it for many years!

Simple Green is my go to. Traeger cleaner works good too(Home Depot)…

I was going to say that it looks like it was never used.

Where’s the part you need to clean? That thing still looks brand new!

I would invest in a cover or tarp if you can’t find a cover. I have to leave my grills in the elements and keep a cover on them.
