My P. Terry’s spot is on MLK next to a Chick-fil-A and a block from Raising Cane’s by the UT campus. Ground zero for the Chicken Wars.
So I saw an announcement that P. Terry’s crispy chicken bites are now available at all locations and checked it out.
The nugget (8-count, $4.95) is really firm, ground chicken breast just like the patty in the fried chicken sandwich. It’s panko crusted, buttermilk battered, mildly but not remarkably seasoned.
There are five sauces for the chicken bites:
Special Sauce (first picture), Spicy Special Sauce, Frankie’s Sauce, Buffalo Sauce and Ranch.
You can get two (small) sauces per order, so I got three orders and one of each sauce plus a ketchup.
I like the Buffalo Sauce the best, cause the chicken is a little on the bland side and the cayenne juice spices it up just right.
Not crazy about creamy sauces so the special sauce didn’t really do much for me. Maybe it’s a mix of ranch or mayo and ketchup, can’t really tell. It’s smooth, not overpowering. The spicy version is jalapeño flavored. It’s better but not as good as the buffalo for my taste.
Frankie’s Sauce is honey flavored with a little citrus tang. Not super powerful. I wanted it to be thicker and spicier, I like it better than the special sauce.
Ranch is fine if you want to be basic, same for ketchup.
Overall, the bites are bigger than most nuggets, 8 for $5 isn’t bad. There’s a combo for $9. I still prefer the Chick-fil-A nuggets cause that peppery “Southern flavor” batter is damn delicious and chicken is strait from a fillet. Hard to beat that. But if you want a burger and chicken nuggets in the same place these are better than McD’s, BK and Jack n the Box.
