Hello and welcome back to In the kitchen with Matt, I am your host Matt Taylor. Today I will show you how to make Onion Rings. Mmm onion rings are really delicious, super easy to make, let’s get started. Down below in the description, I will list everything that you need to make these onion rings. Ok, first let’s go ahead and prep the onion. And what I am going to do is take my knife. Ok we are going to cut this into quarter-inch thick rings. Go ahead and separate them into the rings, simple as that, real easy. I am using a sweet onion, but you can use whatever kind of onion that you want. Ok and now we are going to take our salt, and our baking powder, and just with a fork go ahead and mix it all together. You can use a whisk too. Now we are going to dip our onion rings in our flour. A nice little coating of flour on it. Now I am going to set that aside, do a few more. Ok and then once those are all dipped in the flour, we will take our milk and add that in there, and take our egg, add that in there, and go ahead with a fork and mix it all together and make our batter. Ok once our batter is nice and mixed, what we are going to do is take one of our rings and pop it in there, and I am just going to lay these on there, just to let the access drip off. And then once you do that, we go ahead and take our bread crumbs, ok now we pick up one of these onions, and go ahead and lay it in the bread crumbs. And go ahead and just put the crumbs all over it. You want to use a separate fork for the crumbs then you do for the batter. Ok this is ready to fry, I am going to go ahead and do just a couple more of these. And I just have the breadcrumbs here in this pie pan, it just makes it really nice and easy. Let’s take them over to the oven and fry them up. Ok and then you put some oil in your pot, and fill it up oh about an inch and a half deep. And then go ahead and take your onion ring and place it in there, and we will let it go for about 2.5 to 3 minutes until it is nice and golden brown. And then you will go ahead and turn it over also. And you cook; you heat the oil to about 350 to 360 degrees F. And you can do a couple of these at a time, you don’t have to just do one at a time like this, this is just for the video. Ok and when it looks like that it is done, So go ahead and take it out, then I go ahead and put it on a wire rack to dry off. And that is how you make onion rings, mmm yummy. It was really easy to do, if I can do it, you can do it. I am Matt Taylor this has been another episode of In the Kitchen with Matt, thank you for joining me, If you have any questions or comments, put them down below and I will get back to you as soon as I can. I'm so hungry !!
Looks like the perfect recipe for onion rings! The last time I tried to make those I ended up with such a mess. I'll try your way. One step closer to learning Western food perfection.
Will do, Matt. I have a lot of respect for onions. Such a misunderstood vegetable.
I always use onions as garnish for my dishes. Mix in some spices with onions in a frying pan, and it'll taste absolutely divine on top of rice dishes. My dad used to make us eat local onions when we travelled to different countries when I was a teenager. He said it will protect us from all kinds of bacterial infections and keep us safe during our travel. Now onions are a big part of my life. What's a dish without onions, right?
I look forward to more videos of American dishes. Great food!
do you need to put breadcrumbs or can you skip that step??
Perfect recipe Matt. Made these exactly as you instructed and they were the best onion rings I've ever eaten. They were so crisp and the onion didn't pull out when taking a bite. I'm now a subscriber and looking forward to making more of your recipes!
good job man. looks great!
wow i like it
I used to cook like this a lot – and find its certainly not for people who are concerned about heart health, weight gain, gut health or other such life threatening diseases … once in a while though am sure its great to have fun and make fries and onion rings – the only 2 videos I've seen at this point …
