There was a recent post related to differences between older and newer hinges. I have two 20-ish large eggs and have replaced the bands/hinges on one of them. You can see the difference side-by-side in how the hinges work and the effect on how the lid opens in the pics. Newer hinge is on the right egg looking from the front. It does not open as wide as the old hinge. Makes it harder scooping ash out, etc for me.
