Text: “Chris Philyaw is the managing partner at the Chili's on 45th and Lamar. Always good seeing him when I eat there, so when I got an opportunity to celebrate good food and good people I didn't hesitate to declare today 4/5/2024 "Chili's at 45th and Lamar Day" in Austin, Texas.
Here's the proclamation:
The Chili's Grill & Bar at 45th & Lamar in Austin, Texas, is an institution and renowned gathering spot for University of Texas students and Austin as a whole; and,
Whereas, most, if not all, Austin historians or, at the very least, the historians of Chill's at 45th & Lamar agree that the location became popularized as a restaurant, live music venue, and even marriage proposal spot with promotional posts from redditor "u/ anonymous10101010," who, while lost to time, served our community well by spreading the joy of this restaurant to so many; and,
Whereas, Chili's at 45th and Lamar creates an equal playing field where all Austinites can expect to walk in on good days and bad (it's never really a bad day if you spend some time here to enjoy a 3 for Me, a Triple Dipper, or perhaps a Presidente Margarita, enjoying the casual ambience, and receiving quality, happy service, while watching multiple sporting events all at once; and
Whereas, The grassroots popularity of Chili's at 45th & Lamar embodies the special kind of weirdness that makes Austin, well, Austin;
Now, Therefore, I, Kirk Watson, a particular fan of the Santa Fe Salad with grilled chicken and Mayor of the City of Austin, Texas, do hereby proclaim April 5th,
2024 as Chili's at 45th & Lamar Day"
