So I recently got into chili crisp and a lot of the pricing (at least on Amazon) is insane. Why would I ever get any of the off-brands when I can get 4x the crisp with the OG Lao Gan Ma for the basically the same price? The Fly by Jing was good, but not noticeably better. Are there any other brands worth it from a price/value perspective?

Because sometimes you want something that tastes different. Variety is the ‘spice’ of life.
Lots of people don’t just buy the cheapest option.
Cheapest option is for run of the mill everyday type dishes, and the expensive options are for Celebration type dishes. Atleast where i live the expensive options usually have a Unique flavour that the regular options don’t offer. but then again I don’t buy it from amazon i buy it from what we call ‘de Toko’ (or asian grocery stores)
I love FBJ, but it’s way too much $$. I got a giant jar of LaoGanMa at my local Asian grocery for about the same price as that 6oz FBJ. Chili crisp is also incredibly easy to make at home and keep in the fridge.
Tha Lao Gan Ma is $3 at my local Kroger
I buy different ones because I like to try them and I’m looking for my favorite ones. If you don’t care, just buy the Lao Gan Ma.
7 dollars for the crisp at walmart and 17 dollars for the flybyjung at vons. I wonder if that 10 dollars more is actually noticably.
