Hey all, found a marketplace posting near me for a large older egg. Downside is it’s got a wicked crack on the inside and outside. I’ve seen some people say refractory mortar for firepits, do you think this would be repairable? Worth the $100?

Thanks!!

Only reason I’d buy it is if I broke my dome.

UPDATE: Thanks for the replies everyone! Passing and will save up for a new one then. Cheers!

I’ve spent $100 way dumber. I’d buy it and try to get the local dealer to warranty replace the bottom. Our guy in Chicago will fix literally anything

Are they the original owner? See if they can get it warrantied?

It’s totally worth it. That outside crack is cosmetic , and the inside crack on the ring won’t effect that much.

Only for parts, if you need the exact parts.

I had an older ‘70’s era BGE break while in use. If you have a worse BBQ experience I genuinely feel for you. Let’s just say I now have a fire extinguisher and multiple pairs of silicone fire gloves within immediate access.

Those cracks likely won’t have material impact.

A new base without a warranty is about 4-500 bucks.
