Join samples a new Aldi find and makes an imitation seafood roll.

John H CH trying something new we had
Aldi on sale uh a little while back they
had something I had never seen there
seafood salad and seafood salad with
shrimp and it was $4.29 for 14 ounces so
almost a pound blend of imitation crab
meat shrimp celery mayonnaise and spices
now I did look and there’s more
according to the ingredience list if
they’re in order from most to least
there is more celery than shrimp in this
so I thought about maybe cooking a
couple of shrimp and putting them in
there but we’re just going to try the
regular thing and because we’re fans of
the imitation seafood salad it’s a lot
cheaper way to go and this is cheaper I
think at our a grocery store Deli like
hi ve and Fairway it’s six or seven
bucks a pound so it’s substantially more
so I’m just going to try
this see if I need to add
anything
I am going to
add I think some Old
Bay because what we like to do with this
we’re big fans of main lobster rolls oh
yeah we have we get one about once a
year and uh and so we’re going to use
the crab salad or I’m sorry the seafood
salad with shrimp we’re going to use
that and some Split Top hot dog buns
to make homemade seafood salad so I’m
going to get I think I’m going to get
some Old Bay in here mix it up kind of
make it our own and then we’re going to
hit the stove and show you how we toast
up our buns for this tasty much cheaper
than a lobster roll sandwich all right
so first off we don’t have access to the
New England style hot dog buns which are
like this you know they’re not brown
they’re like this on three sides so
they’re great to toast we do have the
split top so that’s what we’re going to
use that’s the kind of New England part
but so we’re just going to toast these
in some melted butter not toast them
we’re going to grill them and that gets
that grap butter flavor in that
bun so it’s delicious melting the butter
and we’re going in yeah I mean New
England lobster rolls are unbelievably
tasty they need to go to Maine again I
do
too so I just try and give them coated
on all sides
there like I said even though
these you’ll still get the butter flavor
and the toasting on
there if anybody from Maine would like
to sponsor us for a trip you know maybe
like the you we would be happy to make
videos especially they have an Airbnb
you know where we could stay like a
chamber of commerce or something oh yeah
city of uh
Bangor Acadia Portland
Harbor
Trenton and there they are see they’re
nice and golden like a grilled cheese on
there lots of buttery
flavor the bun is nice and warm and then
you put that cold
seafood salad with
shrimp and it’s like a lobster
roll a cheap lobster roll it’ll it it’ll
take care of that craving does it taste
like lobster no does it taste like crab
not necessarily but it’s most of the
ingredients oh there’s a big hunk of K
crab all right that’s how you do
it and yes Mrs sheep will get hers and
she will take a bite right after I do
for those who worry that I’m not feeding
[Music]
her I have told many a person that your
love language is food and I am well
loved it
is all
right so I’m looking forward to
it if you’re not grilling your bun in
butter like
that it adds so
much there you go $429 this would be
good with crackers or something too or
just eat it with a spoon or a
fork Aldi seafood salad not great but
it’s more inexpensive than the other
ones that aren’t great I’ll say
that and yes when we have a hankering
for these we’ll get that again thanks
for watching Johnny’s cheap

  1. If I see this at our Aldi, I'm going to try it for sure. I also gotta tell you I have plenty of options on brands of hot dog buns, but 9 times out of 10 I will buy the Pepperidge Farm buns like you. I like the ones with the sesame seeds. I like the split top ones, but I'm not too particular about the cut.
