A super easy soup to make. Your ingredients are , dal, 3 small onions chopped, 3 tomatoes , garlic, spices etc…Precook your lentils, add them to a tomato sauce, cook a bit and enjoy! I decided to add 1/2 cup of coconut milk at the end. it gave it a very creamy taste.
hello everybody and thank you for
joining me today we are making a lentil
soup a very easy soup to
prepare I am going to prepare it
actually as we speak I’m going to show
you what I’m going to do so before we
begin what do you need you need onions
you need garlic for
ingredients you need your favorite
spices for this soup it has an Indian
flavor so my spices I’m going to use a
curry spice that’s what I am going to
use uh you also need an onion I’m
using those fantastic already peeled
onions you know it makes things much
easier

okay so you’re going to chop your
onion and I’m using three onions one is
a medium size and the other ones are
just
small
okay
once you chop them we are going to cook
them for my Mediterranean soups I use
olive oil because this one here has an
Indian stamp on it I’m going to use
coconut
oil
okay
okay and you can just chop your onions
you want small pieces so it doesn’t you
know have to be perfect you just want
them to be
small and yeah here they are small
cubes I prepared my lentils I’m using
the red dll lentils I prepared them
meaning I already have boiled them until
they have cooked uh while they were
cooking I added bay leaf salt and I also
added couple C
in and some
pepper now you can use a fresh tomatoes
if you are using fresh tomatoes you are
going to need about three medium size
Tomatoes that’s what you’re going to
need for the sauce it is tomato base if
if you are not using fresh tomatoes you
can use canned tomato I’m using crushed
tomatoes fire roasted so it’s going to
give it a nice
flavor that should be
delicious you can mince your onions more
if you want to but you really don’t have
to you know this is going to be
something easy to prepare now you need
garlic as
well we’re going to use garlic quite a
bit we’re going to add it now to the
sauce and also at the
end when we add our hot oil because I
want it to have a little fiery taste to
it and one more
garlic
okay it’s a small
kitchen I always
wanted a big kitchen and a bigger Garden
all right so here is my garlic the
onions are already chopped going to take
my garlic and I’m just going to smash it
here it is

okay and I’m going to take my second
garlic take your knife put the garlic
under and give it a a good top so you
flatten it you crushed it and it’s still
there
okay cool here I have some coconut oil
so let’s see how that’s going to
be let’s heat up my
pan

tablespoon so this coconut oil is going
to cook quite
fast I don’t know if you can see it well
let’s
see yeah okay please don’t fall here we
go so the coconut oil is melting
you know as it gets cold it becomes
solid and now it is just melting I love
the scent of
coconuts so good so delicious now here’s
the trick how much do you use I say I’m
going to use about probably a cup and
what I will do I’m going to add a pinch
of sugar also to it because uh you know
it will take some of the acidity out so
this coconut oil oil is heating
up not yet it didn’t Sizzle you can test
it by adding couple pieces of onions to
your oil if it sizzles it means it’s
ready and just kind of a step away from
this hot stuff you don’t want it to
Splatter all over you
right
okay I’m going to take the onions over
here

okay there’s my wooden
spoon I’m going to sauté the
onion at least until wilted I don’t want
it to be brown but I need it to be wed
okay so it will cook I also have the
onions here with
that now another step we’re going to
make I have a Fresno Peppers that I but
just for this dish I’m going to chop
them into little rounds I’m just going
to let this cook
first once they are cooking I will just
cut them into little C and I’m going to
sauté them in some hot olive oil with
lots of garlic and then you pour it over
your soup and it’s absolutely
delicious the heat here is on
medium you don’t want it too
high it will ruin your
food so the onion is cooking here
and uh let me show you this is the
lentils they cook fairly quickly so I
soaked them for two three days now
because I didn’t have fun to cook them
before so the idea was soak them in the
morning I come back in the afternoon and
cook them didn’t have a chance to do
that so it’s been about three days now
uh you know boiling them took about
maybe 10 minutes and they were cooked
very fast but I did boil them in bay
leaf cardamom and cinnamon stick black
pepper and salt
obviously

so the onion is ready it’s
translucent you know it’s still clear
now it’s clear it’s white it’s not
brownish and I am going to add some
sauce and do I measure don’t I measure I
don’t usually measure so I’m not going
to measure but if you are using a sauce
I would
say yeah this is two

cups cool how many do we have here oh
yeah this is a 12 oz so I definitely
have used 6 ounces here and uh that’s
more than enough for me I don’t want a
too pronounced Taste of tomatoes over
here to put the heat higher a little bit
and now let them
cook a dash of sugar that’s what I’m
going to
use just because I want to take the
acidity
out
okay so if you’re using Tomatoes now you
add your chopped tomatoes and you saute
them with the onions and you add salt
and pepper
I added a bit of sugar you do the same
with the chopped tomatoes if you are
using them just the
same now this is a curry powder that I
am using you can use a curry powder if
you do not have a curry powder you want
to use something else it’s fine you can
use coriander you can use cumin uh
fennel seeds you know you can use all
that stuff it’s delicious and it is good
I’m definitely going to use use some
turmeric as well now this I read the
ingredients it has everything I needed
so I’m just going to use this one this
is a Morton embet
Curry and use a teaspoon at least start
with a teaspoon add more if you need to
I don’t
measure bad habit but it works for me
smells good smells very good so let me
see if I used this kind of spoon what do
I have
well
yes here we go so that’s about two
teaspoons
now okay definitely a curry flavor
here M yummy you know what else you can
do you can add a tiny bit of coconut oil
to it if you
want
okay next
step I am going you can remove the
cinnamon stick if you want but I don’t
want to so I can just keep it you can
remove your cardamon very easy to spot
they are green you can just remove them
here’s a

and here’s my doll for the yellow
lentil
okay now I haven’t added salt over here
and the reason is I already added salt
while I cooked the
lentils
okay yummy now I’m adding some water to
it okay you can add about two cups of
vegetable stock if you want or just
water I am choosing
water
okay and we are going to let it simmer
and
cook
okay here is more kidam you can just
leave it it’s going to give a nice
flavor here and to adjust your
seasoning
take a
teaspoon it’s very
good needs to cook so the flavors will
develop
salt
once it start it starts to boil lower
the heat
okay it smells very
good
okay so let’s leave it here and this is
what I’m doing next my Fresno Peppers
wash
them okay you take your
peppers I’m not happy with those knives
let’s see this
one yes so much better thank
you I think that was like a cuar an
expensive knife and this is maybe what
like a $10 knife
now you can keep the seeds too I will
keep them they are a little bit spicy I
don’t have little children who are going
to eat the soup so I can just keep the
seeds and you see I can hear my soup so
I’m just going to lower the heat I don’t
want it to
burn all
right Greek herbs now in order to make
this
sauce

f yummy we can add some fenre to it
too okay very
good you can add some
ginger which is what I’m going to do
right
now
so here is this piece of Ginger clean it
right take all the skin out it’s okay
you’re going to be left with just a
little bit but it’s all right because
the curry already has everything you
need as far as spices this is just for
the added taste

there beautiful very good now we are
going to use a frying

beautiful when you have a small space
when you are working with a small space
you have to become
creative I don’t know why I did
this but I suppose we have to compromise
right so this is my
compromise live in a city in a smaller
place and give up a nice big home in the
suburbs it’s all
right okay okay olive oil in my pan and
I’m using at least yeah at least qu
cup okay I’m going to let it heat
up here’s my oil it’s already here I’m
just going to let it heat
up now if you had some fennel seeds I
don’t have fennel
seeds yeah I used all of it
I used all of it so no fenel seed if you
have some fennel seeds you can use them
you can sauté them with your peppers
okay but let’s do this let’s wait for
this
one this is going to be delicious I
can’t wait for my dinner to be
ready and actually I want to add a
little bit more
oil
yeah I don’t know what type of oil you
use but uh you know make a habit of
having olive oil in the house it’s so
good it’s delicious it makes everything
taste so much
better yeah it’s
yummy it’s not ready yet it’s not
sizzling all
right oh yes it’s spicy now I have to
wash my fingers for
sure for sure
okay ah it’s starting to
yes okay I am adding my Peppers to the
oil I already added the ginger and in a
little bit I am going to put some teric
as well it’s going to give it this
delicious beautiful golden color all
right so here it is and I’m adding the
seeds too it has all of the steam coming
on the
food or you will burn yourself
just as I did
okay this is beautiful now you can have
this as it is you can have these lentils
as they are or a typical uh way to serve
it is over rice you know you can make
rice and you can serve it over rice I
will have it as it is
it’s beautiful to me it’s a complete
dish it doesn’t need anything
else especially on the day like today
when it’s

know yep it is
good you do want to cook your Ginger
your peppers you want to cook them
for
is my
thic a minute or so for the peppers let
them really
cooked
now you can serve the oil with the
vegetables or you can drain it if you do
not want the peppers you can just drain
the oils so here’s an idea
right you don’t have to serve all the
oil over this I was really just with the
oils over here I have like at least one3
of a
cup yeah at least right of oil so I can
pour the whole thing over with the
peppers and the ginger or I can just use
the flavored oil and if you choose to do
that make sure you have a metal strainer
right not a plastic one and you just
pour it over save some of the
oil so you can save some of the peppers
for later but I am going to use the
whole thing and here it
goes
beautiful oh this smells heavenly it’s
so
good if you have non bread if you have
any sort of bread you can serve it with
it you will notice that there isn’t a
lot of of
liquid and I apologize for the dogs in
the background they are
playing
and check for
Taste it’s
hot oh yes I can definitely taste the
peppers I’m going to add
salt
if you want it creamy add a little bit
of coconut milk to it you know or
coconut cream you can use that too or
you know what a dollop of yogurt a
really good yogurt you know organic a
little bit Tangy unsweetened for sure
and not vanilla all right so let’s see
what we have
here
and like I said you can serve this one
over rice if you choose to a
