it’s kind of
[Music]
cool at the beginning of the
line Dr this ground beef with spices
that looks Mediterranean very Lon we
have a bunch of
ingredients
hum cult wi and then
[Applause]
welcome back welcome back to Kenton and
habba I’m so happy you’re back with us
today we’re going to a cultural Festival
we’re going to learn something new about
this culture but first let me show you
my outfit outfit of the day I’m wearing
a two-piece it’s a blouse and pants
trousers so you can see it’s
asymmetrical the blouse long in the back
I’ve worn this before actually I wore
this when I was in Florida with my
friends and I’m wearing a necklace from
my friend Meo who is housea Nigerian and
I’m wearing some jewelry including a um
bracelet that my grandmother my Jamaican
grandmother used to own some bracelets
from a store that happened to sell Tibet
I can never say that word tibetian
anyway things from toet that’s what the
bracelet is the earrings uh pair of
earrings when I did a collab with gona
jewelry and I think that’s about it and
I’m wearing some
sneakers so that’s the look hey folks
welcome back to Kenton Abba we’re on our
little Adventure today we’re going to a
Lebanese uh uh Spring Summer Festival so
we’re going to check it out cool
so as Kenton just stated we’re going to
a Lebanese Festival so I thought I would
make this video not just a vlog showing
us going to the festival and enjoying
ourselves I thought I would make it
educational so every time you see the
Lebanese flag I will leave a question
and answer that way we both learn
something right isn’t that fun I think
so I mean seriously I’m going to be
learning a lot about Lebanese culture
and and hopefully so do
you I’m always trying to change the side
cuz usually I have it squeezing on my
left we managed to find parking cuz
there’s a lot of uh commercial buildings
around here and on the weekend parking
is fine
so it’s kind of cool see the area is
kind of
hilly lots of
trees you can hear the music triangle
Lebanese American Center
[Music]
will
[Music]
so before we get deep into this Festival
question number one where exactly is
Lebanon when you think about Lebanon in
the world or on the map where is it do
you have an answer well I’m sure most of
you will probably say that Lebanon is in
the Middle East which is correct it’s a
Middle Eastern country on the eastern
shore of the Mediterranean Sea but let’s
be a little bit more specific what are
the countries bordering Lebanon well to
the South to the south of Lebanon is
Israel and then when you think to the
Northeast look at the map to the
northeast of Lebanon is Syria and then
on the western edge of Lebanon is the
mediteran Anan
sea let’s take a look and see what the
vendors
have
shiaw pea beef chicken
gyos spinach pies
o that looks good look at desserts you
know this is habib’s Place hi let me
see kafa kafa oh I’ve heard of that yeah
it’s made with what it has this is the
Bak laa crust and it has a sweet cheese
and we serve it Ki okay rose
water awesome
this is with
wal
as this almost looks that looks
Mediterranean very
much and what’s that one this is The
Dumpling what is it made
[Music]
if you’re not from the Middle East or
Mediterranean can you name some
traditional Lebanese
foods kafta which is actually meatballs
made out of lamb or beef or even chicken
filled with onion parsley breadcrumbs
and
spices hummus which is typically made
out of chickpeas garlic and
Tahini taboule is is a type of salad
made out of mint parsley tomatoes onions
lemon juice bargal which is cracked
wheat spices and
cucumber rice pilaf is also Lebanese
typically made with rice nuts and often
vermicelli
noodles M this salad looks yummy this is
called fatou which is like a salad made
with lettuce bread and deep fried bits
this looks like PE Pizza this is called
manakish and it is like a Lebanese pizza
made with bread topped with thyme sesame
seeds olive oil and other this dessert
is called canaf and it is a sugary
cheese pastry smothered usually in an
orange blossom syrup I’ve had this
before really delicious all right we’re

of the spices are glutenfree um and yeah
there’s a lot of gluten-free Lebanese
food okay cool as long as you don’t wrap
it in bread all right tell me about your
outfit uh well I’m a performer so it’s
my Dan so these are some pants they’re
called CH and then these are the tops
but they’re a little
shaky thank you the young lady was
initially quite shy but I appreciate her
talking to me this is a meat clatter all

[Music]
[Music]
[Music]
[Applause]
all right folks so that was the Lebanese
Festival I hope you enjoyed that was
fun got a little snack here and there
saw a lot of beautiful dancing I love
the music I love love love that kind of
music actually cuz I like to pretend I’m
on that stage doing some belly dancing
[Music]
can you
imagine that’s some good belly dancing
music but no seriously though um it’s
nice to learn about other cultures
and I grew up with Lebanese people in
Nigeria um although I don’t you know
fully uh understand or know the culture
um but there are certain things that are
familiar definitely
beautiful people and also remember
Lebanese people or Lebanon is not the
same as Palestinian neither is it the
same as Libya cuz sometimes people get
it mixed up you say Lebanon they think
Libya or they think culturally they
think Palestine they’re all
different um what did you think about
the festival boo nice I love festivals I
love course it’s a festival celebrating
culture and people so did you enjoy did
do you like the food I like any food
that’s right you like any food it is
pollen season not just our van is a hot
mess look all the vehicles are a hot
mess when it comes to dust and pollen
see that Tesla right there covered it’s
nice and green and bright well it’s kind
of overcast right now but we’re heading
home so people are still coming people
are still leaving that’s what we let
it’s very interesting how you can live
in a place and never come in contact
with you know certain
cultures um and yet they have large
communities right there next to you you
just have to go out and look for
them right Boo isn’t that interesting
you know there’s so many cultures yeah
that’s what make them that’s what makes
America great right
that we can live in
harmonies people need to reach out
and understand and learn and celebrate
other people difference isn’t bad right
people are just naturally fearful of
difference um and then on top of that
you know the
natural desire even though somewhat
primitive to put other people
down so yeah yeah there’s always that
Judgment of someone or someone’s culture
being inferior when in fact we are all
human
beings we’re all human beings with equal
value I don’t know
what so yeah I was saying before I
started
joking words getting stuck in the words
were getting stuck how you know
naturally people tend to be fearful of
things they don’t understand or things
they don’t know you know and it’s the
same when it comes to people that they
think are foreign or different in some
way but in the end we all want the same
things we all enjoy food we all enjoy
family we all enjoy you know celebrating
life and that’s what it’s
about so you know how they say in church
turn around and tap your
neighbor say hello to your
neighbor that’s what we need to do more
frequently
[Music]
has me
[Music]
w
[Applause]
