I agree. Many years ago, I was really into Mulberry but recently, Danny Boys has been my go-to for NY-style.

Finally someone posts about them. They are in my top 3 NY style pizza for me. Arguably the best, but I have to go back and try it again, because every time I get that delicious Sicilian slice.

The best slice I’ve had is at Pizzanista, but it’s a bit to the side of DTLA proper. This slice looks amazing and I’ll definitely be hitting up Danny Boy’s in the future.

Danny Boy’s has very good ingredients, and I do enjoy their pizza. But I feel like the crust is a tad too thick. I’m not a NY pizza expert but I’ve been to NY many times and never had a slice that thick in NY. It’s always floppy as hell there. From my understanding the slice should not hold up on its own like that when you are just holding the crust. Which is why you need to do the fold. But maybe some NY pizza be that way?

I’ve seriously had many Chicago style pizzas that are thinner. At least the tavern style. And some Chicago style stuffed pizza is about the same amount of dough thickness too.

DB has the best traditional NY style slice, but I prefer Pane Bianco’s NY’ish slices over them.

LOVE Danny Boy’s. Their meatball pizza is one of our go-to pizza night pizzas! (We alternate between them and Purgatory, or Dough Daddy’s when we have time to pickup)

Danny Boys is very very good pizza! I also think Pizzanista in DTLA has a great slice!

  8. Not gonna lie, that looks pretty good. I’m infatuated with Shins at the moment.

Yes. Before they opened, Prime Pizza DTLA was my once a week pizza spot. I haven’t been back since. Same style, but the difference was notable…especially the Sicilian Slice. Compare the dough on Danny Boy’s to Prime…no contest.

This and Ghisallo are my fave ny slice right now.

  11. ITT: OP asks about DTLA pizza, half the responses completely ignore the location

  12. appleeeeee

honestly yeah! i love their mushroom slice

  13. SinoSoul

All these people responding with joints nowhere near DTLA… what?

  14. _its_a_SWEATER_

Hard to choose between Danny Boy, Pizzanista, and Purgatory. I just go with whichever I’m closest to.

I like all the NY slice places we have talked about but…..
They all break instead of fold. That is a VERY big dif.

  16. Where do you recommend parking?

I have been wanting to check them out but the location is super inconvenient.

  17. 360FlipKicks

i know this is about pizza but Danny Boy’s meatball sub is fucking fire

  18. oneironology

I just want to say fuck the parking lot there. They only validate for 10 minutes so if you plan on staying to eat, validate at shakeshack

I’m personally a fan of Superfine

I think their quality has gone down a little bit since they first opened. Maybe because the owner (and his brother?) used to be there all the time but now don’t see him as much

  21. LoKumquat

Incredible looking slice. It’s on my to do list.

  22. fukamundo

Nope, I go Braazo’s all the way.
PiLA is good too though but it’s a different category.

  23. DonJuanPawnShop53

Used to order it for work all the time not bad

  24. Pepe_De_Froog

If you like thick crust, then Prince Street Pizza is pretty great… personally, I’ve never been to the DTLA location, but I’ve been to a few other locations around LA and they’ve all been consistently amazing, so I imagine the DTLA location would be no different. The one downside is that it’s on the pricier side, but imo it’s worth it as a once in a while treat.

Definitely up there! Can’t wait for the Westwood location

    Pizza Next Door is bomb.

Not a vegetarian but their veggie style is amazing. It’s got chunks of avocado and feta.

Just ordered a pie because of this pic. Pretty solid, but the one I got was quite a bit floppier than yours :/ Still really tasty though. Thanks for the rec.

There’s some solid pizza on the east side. Secret pizza and shins both do really good slices
