I just got a clay/earthenware (?) dolsot from Weee! and I forgot that you have to do something special (boil? soak?) to get it up and running.

It’s one of those cheap ones that are pretty smooth so I can’t imagine it needs much help.

I found this article (link) but I’m uncertain since a lot of dolsot care I have read is for the granite kind.

Any help is appreciated!

Edit: oops, I was duped by the item title lol. Thank you everyone!

Usually boil rice/rice flour. If it’s a natural glaze, if it’s ceramic, doesn’t matter

Real dolsot requires a stone bowl. You have a clay pot so it’s better than nothing but it won’t get you the same results as an actual stone bowl. For a clay pot you don’t need to do anything special. Just heat it up on the stove.

You probably have a ttukbaegi (smooth black or dark brown glaze) which is very versatile and no maintenance. It’s the clay/earthenware equivalent of a Dutch oven.

Dolsot is stone, usually granite, has limited use, and needs maintenance care since it’s made from stone.
