hey guys welcome to Flat Top King hey today is all about a special it’s all about the southern style BLT fried green tomato BLT but we’re gonna do a homemade pimento cheese you guys watch this all right before we break all these ingredients up I have a lot of prep work to do okay we do have a recipe available um from the Yardbird chicken sandwich that has a homemade pimento cheap pimento cheese we’re gonna do very close to the same thing I am going to try to impact a little bit more flavor although the other one was fantastic Fried Green Tomatoes star of the show I’m telling you you’re keeping your pantry and it goes a long ways I do this for breaded okra I use this stuff a lot we’re gonna go half and half with some panko crumbs no ideas we see uh cook bacon I got a lot of prep work to do so let’s get started all right a lot of prep work done so we have our smoked gouda our pepper jack our cheddar we have some grated onions some butter some cream cheese and diced pimentos okay just to recap remember this recipe will be on the flattopking.com today we’re going to add a little fresh jalapeno I just think it’s going to give a little nice kick we always buy the pimento cheese with Jalapenos in there why not our little seasoning blend plenty of fresh Cracked Pepper this recipe does make a lot of pimento cheese but we really like pimento cheese um my butter today is salted I actually grabbed the wrong one so right now I’m not gonna add any salt because I don’t over salt it okay I want this to be healthy cheese butter mayonnaise yup Southern staple followed by Fried Green Tomatoes to make quick work of this you can spatulate or fold it all you want to I like to take a hand mixer just going low look at that dang color now if that’s not fermented cheese all right we’re gonna put this in the refrigerator for an hour I just think it helps solidify have all those ingredients marry together whatever’s left of it we’re gonna put in the refrigerator for an hour alrighty right before we start our Fried Green Tomatoes I just turn my grid on low let it come up to temperature and then we’ll start this bacon I’ve got thick cut bacon today I just think it helps you know sometimes the little things when you really want to crave something like we are today we went the extra mile all right we have half a cup of panko I’m just going to do about a 50 50 mix I’m telling you another good thing that you can use is hush puppy mix really good things out there that can be multiple of uses hot sauce two eggs beet into my flour mix a little bit of salt I might add a little bit of salt to here right there and a little pepper it can smells good all right perfect time of the year the tomatoes I like them with just a very Touch of red on them that just gets them past the uh the so much of the green stage I think it just softens up the Tomato just enough to have a little bit more flavor personal preference you don’t have to go too thick on these because remember you’re going to dredge them you know you’ll they’ll thicken up as they uh receive that dredge all right like normal to speed things up but I’m just going to show you how I do one just going over the flower knock that excess off into your egg wash that’s going to form your glue knock the excess off and right into your dredge I’m gonna get the rest of these knocked out I’m going to finish cooking the bacon and I’m going to reserve a lot of that bacon grease to be able to fry these Fried Green Tomatoes man it seems like it’s taking forever to get to this point talk about being hungry all right got a bacon done cook the bacon as much as you like or as much as your wife likes we saved all that bacon grease shallow fry you’re only cooking these until like you get a good golden crispy texture texture and texture two different things remember your Tomatoes already dead you don’t have to worry about it all the excess grease I can get [Music] our grease the pan isn’t full yeah that’s a lot of Grease [Music] we kind of like our bread toasted yep let me show you real quick you got equal equal color no reason to cook these longer than what they need to remember they’re no internal temperature looks like we do most fried foods in the South a little bit of salt because we didn’t have enough in there the first time [Laughter] you didn’t salt your tomatoes all right there’s what our bread looked like when it came off The Griddle so we just want to build this sucker both of them the same way light on the pimento cheese being sarcastic yes nobody orders a pimento cheese fried green tomato BLT and be light on the front of cheese let me tell you something those fried green tomatoes on a good homemade marinara sauce with some cheese grits or polenta mmm we need to make that next those are fantastic get you some bacon on there then to make sure you’re eating healthy I don’t want to make sure you’re eating unhealthy some nice crisp lettuce just to say you had your vegetables today all right guys there you go that’s a southern delicacy at its finest these crispy fried green tomatoes crispy fried crispy fried crispy fried got the bacon the pimento cheese let me try bite I know it’s good I know it’s dang good um oh man you know when you make a menu out there’s certain things that you feel like people would enjoy just because it’s a classic there’s other things like this where you feel like it’s so good people would want to go home and tell other people crazy nothing is overpowering that’s special a lot of hard work you’re special a lot of hard work just for something simple but sometimes you just go in the extra mile which goes a long way you’ve got this for game day um take this jalapeno cheese right here I know uh tailgating is coming up you can use this for pig shots you can do this for a jalapeno stuffed poppers crackers a little thin sliced breads for Deli thin stuff like that don’t let this amount of pimento cheese for you you can do this a lot of   14. Great video. I'm going to give a shout out to the cheddar cheese you used. It's Tillamook cheese from, you guessed it, Tillamook Oregon. It's a Northwest favorite and a award winning cheddar cheese across the US. One more nugget of information about Tillamook. It's in a temperate rainforest on the Oregon coast. How much annual rain fall you ask? How about between 12' and 13' feet of rain on average. Anyway great video, have a great day ( fyi the salmon fishing there is fantastic).😊

  16. When we do pimento cheese, we'll add green chilis instead of pimentos, so it's a green chili cheese. With green chilis, you can adjust the heat to your liking.

  20. Being from the South, pimento cheese sandwiches is a "must". I am the official pimento cheese maker for the family gatherings and keeper of the "secret recipe". This year I tried growing my own pimento peppers as I have always used the jarred product before. I grew "Ashe County" type sweet pimento peppers from Rare Seeds (Baker Creek Seeds), and I can say they made a huge difference in the flavor profile of the pimento cheese. I roast them in the hot air fryer/oven and then peel the skin off and de-seed. Then they are ready for dicing and prep for storage or sandwich making! Much more prominent pimento flavor (in a good way) and oh so sweet at full red ripeness. They are small peppers so it takes quite a few, but well worth the effort to try growing.

  21. My dad loved fried green tomatoes so much we were lucky to have any for mater sandwiches! The taste never rubbed off on me tho. I do like the alternate ideas for the pimento cheese. Stuffed jalapenos sound real good, and bacon should never crunch!
