There’s this popular k-drama comedy trope where some character is very experienced at drinking and shows off by making so-maek in the most elaborate, dramatic way. This usually involves shaking the beer up until it’s super pressurized and spraying it into the drinking glasses so it’s basically all head/foam. I’ve never had so-maek this way but I can’t imagine why you would want all your beer to turn foamy and flat? I considered that maybe it’s just a tv trope but then I saw this clip pop across my feed on ig:

And now I’m curious. Is this really a thing? Do people think it tastes better this way?

I’ve heard of the stereotype for 70/30 beer, where it’s 70 percent beer and 30 percent foam, and even that seems like too much head.

In the US a pint of beer will have maybe an inch of head on the glass. More than that and people will complain (I was a bartender…so yeah I know about it haha).

I couldn’t imagine enjoying a beer that was so much foam. Very odd to me.

I don’t think anyone thinks it tastes better this way, just that it’s a fun thing to do.

Like the champagne spray… I’d rather a glass of it, but under the right circumstances, younger me (much younger…) would have also accepted having it sprayed in the general proximity of my mouth.

    It’s carbonated debauchery.
