This egg was left unattended for 1.5 years and was opened today. Does anyone have cleaning advice?

Fill it completely full of charcoal, open the top and bottom. It should turn pretty white on the insides when complete and will be clean.

    Order a new gasket.

Make the hottest fire possible and let it BURN.  Think 800+ for an hour.

Brush down the grates with a grill brush.

Might have to wipe the outside with some degreaser if it was exposed to rain.

Install your new gasket.  Congrats on the clean grill!

Light a match, fire it up, and let it rip..

Heat it to 250 for a little while (just what I’d do in case there’s trapped moisture) then add some more coal and open both top and bottom vents get it up to about 7 or 800 and let it stay there till the coal burns out. Then take a ball of aluminum foil and scrape the inside is the dome with it. It’ll be looking good.

The advice you’ve received here is monolithic for a reason, lol, and it is also the answer to most egg maintenance questions. Buy some pig parts, and wood chunks. Have a good summer

Let that awesome doggo lick it clean!

Clean burn then replace the gasket. You’ll never know it was untouched. Check out Fogo on YouTube for instructions for both

Hot fire cleaned mine to white just don’t melt the gasket

Build the hottest fire possible and let it burn for hours then scrub out the remains.

Not that bad! Load it up with charcoal, then let her rip through it all til the coals are gone. Scrape it off and call it good.

Looks like mine. I swear I‘ll use it again one day, and Imma just light the hottest fire inside that I can when that day comes.

Load it with lump, light it and let it cook at 600 until the fire goes out

    Burn baby burn!

Burn with the bottom door fully open, and with the top cap removed.

    Replace the gasket afterwards.

    Good as new.

Clean out any leftover charcoal or debris from inside the grill. Check bolts hinges etc. Make sure you have all of the parts. Then fill with fresh lump charcoal and let it burn on low heat for a few hours. Check for leaks in the gasket. Brush/scrape grates. Let it heat up to very hot and let it run till charcoal is burnt out. Let it cool off completely and remove all of the ash (you can use a shop vac. If you had air/smoke escaping order a gasket, replace and enjoy the best cooking equipment you will ever had

Same situation I usually find myself in every time I go to fire up the offset smoker. I never clear it out after I’m done cooking so it gets a bit of grown in there. A nice hot fire with the cooking chamber up into the 500-600’s usually gets everything gone
