I transplanted this 2.5 weeks ago. I have more o just transplanted into some beds. For context I just cut off some branches I saw laying low near the soil.

I do prune, but those plants aren’t large or bushy enough to need it.

Honestly you only should definitely prune branches too close to the soil to prevent transmission of soil borne disease.

And maybe if vegetative growth is too thick and it’ll kill itself by depriving significant parts of the plant without light and sometimes branches might end up choking and strangling other branches.

Quite frankly I’m not a huge buyer of “MUST SNIP SUCKERS” and whatnot.

I prune off the suckers I won’t be able to provide support for. Do you know if indeed this is an indeterminate variety? If so, have you considered staking or caging it? It possibly could get over 8’ tall with lots of side stems.

    If it’s a determinate then don’t prune.

I love pruning, agree with some of the comments below. Removing branches close to the soil and to ensure I get enough air circulation to avoid mildew on my plants. I like to remove suckers in between lower branches so I’d probably do from black tie and below. If I plant direct into the garden and not pots, I prune to make picking easier but much less than my pots.

What variety of tomato is this! Determinate or indeterminate?

Bottom, get air moving through plant.
