I recently ate some great salsa but I’ve been trying to make it at home – and can’t figure out what’s missing!

I’ve tried with Jalapeños and Serranos but the flavour isn’t the same.

Would anyone be able to help me figure out what this mystery pepper is?

Looks like a dehydrated guajillo to me and a cut up Serrano

Hit up your Mexican market or the section that has all the dried red looking chilis. They may look cheap and junky but that’s where so much of the good flavor comes from in Mexican cooking. I love arbol in my salsa, pasta sauce, shrimp.

I’ve gotten to where I roast a tomato and emulsify one. But it’s just garlic, tomato’s and arbol chilies, salt and white pepper and a bit of cilantro. But my preference

Thanks for all the info! The dried is definitely Guajillo and maybe Arbol. The green peppers were whole little chilis – not Serrano I think! Those are really stumping me
