hey everyone I’m Joan Smith and welcome to Joanne’s Corner in today’s tutorial we’re going to be making fried green tomatoes so grab your apron and let’s get started for today’s tutorial you’re going to need a couple of green tomatoes we have self fries and cornmeal mix self fries and flour a little sugar black pepper and salt and I have some oil getting hot in my Skillet over there you can use veg oil canola oil whatever you’d like and um first of all you want to have these washed your Tomatoes washed and we’re just going to slice the ends off of them and then slice them up and probably a/4 inch slices and we’re going to put them in a plate or you can put them in your sink and then we’re going to be seasoning them here in a few minutes but go ahead and do that and we’ll be right back now that we have them sliced we’re going to season them with salt and I have some restaurant black pepper I like it better cuz it’s bigger than regular pepper just kind of sprinkle that on there and we’re going to take some sugar and just pinch it with our fingers and just sprinkle it on top of it and what the sugar does it gets the the Zipp it kind of nips it a little bit but just do that again flip them over and and do that on both sides sides and we’ll be right back for our batter we’re going to use 1/3 cup of self-rising flour and then we’re going to put two cups of self-rising cornmeal so two parts cornmeal one part flour and then we’re going to take each one each slice and we’re going to cover it on both sides with our mixture and just do that to all of them and then we’ll take them to the skillet and get them started I turn my Skillet up to high and get the the oil really hot and then stick these in there and after I get them all placed in my oil I’ll turn it down because you don’t want them to cook too fast on the outside because it’ll leave the middle undone they’ll get burned on the outside but won’t be done on the inside so just uh move everything around so you can get them all in there in your skillet and then turn your heat down to medium our tomatoes have started to get brown around the edges so just take take some tongs or a spatula just whatever you’re more comfortable with and just turn them all over and let them get golden brown on the other side and when they get done we’re going to take them up on a plate that has a paper towel in it and we’re going to put them in that or on that so they’ll drain if these aren’t Brown to your liking you can flip them over again and let them Brown a little more just depends on what you like our tomatoes are done so you might want to use a spatula for this part because I tried using my tongs a while ago and I was pulling off some of the batter so it’s better to to use the spatula but just take all these up and put them on your plate that has the paper tail on it so they can drain and that’s all you got to do and that’s how you fry Green Tomatoes if you like my tutorial please like my video And subscribe to my channel and we’ll see you soon
