After I’m done using the cling I kinda like pinch the whole length of what I’ve torn off back onto the roll, kinda makes this scrunched up line of cling film so you can easily start rolling it again next time, rather than leaving it on the teeth.

Discovering someone has left the wrap like this is truly the one thing on this earth that takes me instantly from zero to seething, white-fucking-hot rage.

Tape the ends of the box so it pulls the ends tight to the front/back.

Using a very sharp knife very carefully trim the edges of the roll at a 45 degree angle. Very carefully.

whack the dummy who kept using it in this state and let it get bad, over the head with said roll.

It’s very hard to tell which way the roll is unwinding in your photo.
I have found best practice is to place the roll in the box supported on the plastic shoulder at either end. The film needs to be in position where it is pulling from the rear of the roll and box, so that when you pull the film up towards the ceiling the roll rotates towards you.

Make sure that the box is not distorted, use some of the film twisted like a rope, to tie the ends of the box firmly in place and reinforcing the stability of the box, this reduces any unevenness in the plastic roll plugs, and thus the distortion and drag imparted into the roll is relieved.

By lifting towards the ceiling until you have reached desired length, you maximise the free flow and minimise drag.

Once you get into the groove your problems will reduce however, other chefs tend to mishandle the wrap and then once the roll has been dropped from the box causing a dent, or they have jammed the blade under the snag, they have a habit of taking yours and leaving theirs.
So I have started writing the asigned area of use on the inside of the lid and then the initials of area in small discreet print under the box.
That way, even if the top is torn off they are identifiable and you know who the sticky figured one is.
I then return the knackered roll too his area, leave your stolen roll in his area and open a new one. If he says one word or tries to bring a roll back, tell him he has 2 choices, suck it up and use both or pay for the one he has already used and then continue with my old one.
If the sous gets involved and tries to over ride me. I call physical contamination. The front service bench is for finished product, the kill step for pathogens is past. The risk of introducing uncontrolled contamination from a damaged box that has been used in general process area’s such as the veg prep area, raw meat processing, raw fish handling etc is high. Cardboard is porous and will hold a viable habitat for bacteria growth until it is completely dry. So I keep my new roll and I look after it.

    Good luck.

I want to get a job in the saran wrap factory, just for one day to find out what causes this

Can’t help with cling film but if it happens with foil, you can ball up some foil and scratch off the extra layers!

Throw it out, nobody got time for that.   but if you really want to salvage it, cut across the whole roll carefully with an exacto or sharp utility knife a few layers down, past all the messed up layers, then peel all the cut layers off until it’s down to virgin unfucked layers again.

Also you need to get the kind with the sliding slicer thing, not the ripping teeth. so much better.

Tuck your finger under there and rip it all the way to the edge until it starts fresh

you have to setup the box as the manufacturer designed it! Tear the perforations, insert the little flaps where they are supposed to go. The rigidity of the box as it is designed prevents the warping and twisting of the whole thing that results in bad cuts and pulls. When the box starts to fall apart, reinforce the structural integrity with tape.

Just a European chiming in but why do you use those dumbass cardboard boxes???

Just get a stand with wallmounts lol , they cost fuck all.

I unfuck a roll like these at absolute most 2 times a year but this sub is making it seem like an actual daily challenge …

Use a pairing knife to make a cut length wise, and deep enough to cut through a few layers. It’s the easiest way to sort that mess. Works with aluminum foil rolls too.

  15. Inexpensiveggs

When it gets bad, I just take a super sharp knife and try to gently fillet the Saran down til I find a fully flat layer.

Then I duct tape the entire box shut, leaving only the dispenser hole and metal slicer open.

Wait to see who asks you ‘why the plastic wrap is taped shut and now I can’t use it properly’ bam you’ve found your saran satan

  16. Deymaniac

Get a cutter, set it to a minimal length, do a clear cut, remove few layer that are unusable, start over with the new clean cut, ive been driver mad in a kitchen with those, save some time, and nerves

  17. Live_Entrepreneur221

Find out who is responsible and publicly flog them with a dirty side towel

  18. lases_out_dan

Valium Colonopin or learn how to use your hands.
Be gentle with the plastic in the plastic will be gentle with you

  19. You’re supposed to leave it soaking in water, throw the cutter away immediately, and THEN rip the wrap to shreds. This is the way.

Wtf, why do people do this. It’s just plastic wrap, not a damn mars rover, figure out how to use it.

  20. MrSipperr

This is why I’m leaving the kitchen. Fucking plastic wrap.

  21. phalluss

Use it on a flat surface and pull out the wrap in one smooth motion, wrap it under the bench then cut it.
