Hey all. Walmart is giving me $150 free credit towards this pitboss model so I would essentially get it half off. Or they would give me an expert grill propane model for free essentially for some issues I had experienced. I use standing wood chip electric smokers and a couple charcoal grills. I’m extremely novice and only make food for fun so please take it easy on me. Also in my family aside from myself everyone likes their meat well well done unfortunately lol
Is this model ok? Any gripes? Would I be able to throw some burgers, hot dogs, and ribs on it? Or should I look at something completely different.

Well. Temp goes up to 400, but I dont know if Id leave it there for a long time and its not going to maintain that at all with the lid open. So as far as grilling, probably not.
Now, if your question is should you get into smoking meat for fanastic bbqs… the answer is completely yes. And its not a bad starter smoker. Theres some issues with it, (known issue where the hopper doesnt feed evenly and you have to poke the pellets every couple hours to make sure they all get used) but Ive enjoyed getting into smoking these past couple months and people have never been happier with my cooking.
You can cook anything on a pellet grill. However you need to understand that it will never be close to as good as charcoal for grilling. Basically pellet grills are a wood fed oven. Getting to something like 400° to cook a hot dog takes a while and burns a lot of pellets. They perform much better low and slow.
Ribs yes. Burgers and dogs are better suited for one of your other grills.
I had a similar pitboss 700 for years and it was a great introductory pellet smoker. Low and slow it’s great. Super hot and it eats pellets and is super smokey.
I’ve never had an electric smoker so I can’t say if this is better. Do plan on getting a separate probe and ambient temperature thermometer, the built in one isn’t the best.
It will grill just fine
