First time grilling on this gas grill we got recently at my office (I only use charcoal or flat top griddle at home). They got some Kraft singles to put on the burgers, but no matter what I did, that cheese would NOT melt like American cheese normally does. It sat on those burgers a good 5 minutes at least, to the point the edges were burning, but I could still lift the cheese slice off the patty as if I had just set it on there. Never seen that before ever. What was happening here?

Bad batch of cheese perhaps. Dumb question but the plastic was taken off the slices yes?

You’re using Kraft singles, that’s what’s going on. Stuff is plastic.

I don’t put cheese on it until the very end, and uncovered. This looks like a cheese was slapped on right after flipping and closing the lid?

These gas grills have this vortex heat system using rear vents so that the top can cook just as crispy as the bottom. I have a propane grill like this one

It’s low quality American combined with being overcooked.

Guessing that’s some cheap ass cheese. Get better cheese and I guarantee this doesn’t happen.

    It’s burnt…. What’s up with the chef? 😂

I’ve seen a lot of people complain about kraft singles no longer melting

You did remove each slice from their wrapper, right? I’ve never seen it melt or burn like this before.

Seriously looks like the plastic wasn’t taken off of these, not quite sure how else the edges could be burnt but not melted

take the plastic off and try again

You can actually see the wrappers on a couple of them

I know you said you unwrapped them but maybe you’re mistaken because that’s definitely what it looks like.

Either way, 5 minutes of cheese on the burgers while they’re on the grill is way too long. It’ll only take a minute or two to melt them, even if they’re being cooked indirectly.

I just grilled some burgers last night and used the Kraft American singles and they were as consistent as ever. I cooked both sides for 4 minutes direct heat around 450 then moved them to the off burner and put cheese on them for another 90-120 seconds. They were big ass half pounder wagyu burgers.

It just looks like it’s doing that weird plastic burn mark thing it does

Maybe take off the plastic? Just a thought.

You’re supposed to unwrap the slices before putting them on the burger, Carl

  16. LoserChapo956

It looks like the cheese is still in the wrapper

  17. Latin_For_King

When you switch to the Velveeta singles, make sure to unwrap them.

I assume you threw on cold cheese in hot flames. Which is why the edges are burnt but the middle isn’t because it was cooler there.

You should put cheese indirect heat so that it heats up and melts evenly.

Don’t listen to the people saying it’s because it’s kraft. Whole milk Kraft singles melt. Are they low fat or something ?
