I have 5 tomato plants growing on my deck in Brooklyn (7B) and just found all these bugs COVERING a Cherokee purple plant. Any idea what these are, how to get rid of them, and should I just toss the whole plant before they spread?!?

They’re aphids.
Not very hard to get rid of (if they aren’t being protected by ants, that is) even with “organic” methods.
Even at the level shown (the first pic is actually quite a few) they often can be ignored on tomatoes, just because the plants grow so incredibly fast — it takes a *lot* of aphids to actually slow down an otherwise healthy tomato plant.

You can also remove them if you’d like, just wash them with the water hose.
