I’ve had a bag of activated charcoal here at home for some time, it’s getting close to expiring so figured i’d give it a go and attempt to make some black lemonade – 2 ways… one which is my favourite lemonade recipe, then a 2nd healthier version with maple syrup instead of sugar which now may be my favourite! I’m not an expert on activated charcoal and am not trying to convince you to get any at all – please do your own research before getting any if you are able to use it, it’s more quite fascinating how the taste was odourless and the scene in this video when it instantly changed was a lot of fun!

it does look like some really dodgy cider that i’ve probably had once upon a time [Music] never gonna give you up never gonna let you down sorry folks i know i’m rick rolling right away but patreon vlog club the people that see behind the scenes video edits of these videos before they’re edited you’ll know what i’m talking about sorry first thing says uh phoebe is right here she’s about to show you something very very cool indeed but we have some bathing pugs look at this it’s a nice lovely day is it is it getting back to spring guys huh look at this you might recognize that i’m wearing a new merch that’s because i have a merch specialist now phoebe is amazing at drawing right and you came up with this i’m not very good at jpegs and pings and jings and whatever right but you did this right let’s and we put it on my store i ordered a sample of a mug and a t-shirt we wanted to check that it turns out all right and i quite like the version that looks small like that yeah it’s a bit like lacoste or a little like branded logo it’s like discreet yeah quite smart yeah what was the inspiration for this phoebe well you always catch toasters okay we learned that she could make a homemade stylist by taking the ink out of a pen wrapping it in full sticking a cotton bud up the where the ink was and keeping it slightly damp right and you didn’t get electrocuted this is sensational can you see that you drew that with a stylus it’s a brick wall with a cat staring at the moon pondering thinking about maybe he’s thinking it’s a big sorcerer of milk so anyhow uh going forward we’re going to probably do like a merch of the month and this is now that we’ve had a sample for him we’re happy with it we’re going to put it out there right yeah and any of these uh things that i do sell will go towards phoebe’s savings account so if you wanna get a toaster on fire what’s your next one um a donut a donut yes that’s the story thing isn’t it she’s working on a big thing yeah i’m gonna go now all right bye then bye bye sort of run out of things to say this ladies and gents is a package of 100 grams of activated charcoal we are making black lemonade today and i know what you’re thinking like lemonade why don’t you just get some black food coloring from your cupboard yep i i could totally totally do that but if you don’t know what activated charcoal is i’ll tell you about it in just a moment and also a little bit of lemon theory because if you are a vegan you might not be allowed to have some lemons i’ll come on to that now when life gives you lemons folks uh you’ve got a couple of different types now this is something i read up last night and i’m sure it’s probably a little bit like out there but lemons you get two different types generally in the supermarket here in the uk uh you get these which are waxed okay wax on i love kobrakai honest to help stop them like the outside rotting slightly and to help them for transplantation and preservation purposes a lot of them here in the uk are waxed okay and when you buy a lemon in the shop you can either get a wax lemon wax on or you can get ones that specifically say on a label like that unwaxed okay and hopefully you can see the difference there wax on wax off this is literally slightly more duller looking there’s a more glossy thing with the wax on but the coating some sometimes be made from bugs and things like that so that is where the vegan element if you know someone who’s a vegan they should definitely have unwaxed we are going to use unwaxed lemons from my favorite way of making lemonade and then we’re going to do a slightly more healthy one because you see the amount of sugar i put in that lemonade we’re going to do one with maple syrup so it’s a little bit healthier hopefully you’ve learned something then i’m sorry it’s just lemons apparently activated charcoal is a fine odorless black powder and sometimes i use it in hospitals because it’s toxin absorbing as your body is unable to absorb this charcoal the toxins in your body can bind to it and then they leave your body when you go to the toilet which is why also sometimes people use it as a water filter as well they put a little bit in there because it’s kind of got like natural cleansing properties i’ve read enough so here we go oh my gosh did you see that burst out then look at my thumb it looks like soot look at that all right so we’re gonna make the lemonade i need four lemons i’m gonna chop roughly and this one i’m just gonna um just kind of like do a little garnish with it because i think that’ll look really cool in this lemonade once we’ve done it so just a couple of thin slices uh and with these four they are gonna get whizzed up anyway i’m just gonna make it a little bit easier for the blender the only thing i would say is take the uh is that the i’m gonna call it the butt take the butt off the lemon that’s the only thing i do take off this is going in my blender and now into there goes some cold water oh i really should have done the water first because then the sugar will dissolve can you see that going down there look at that amazing dissolving in just like chlorine into my wood recycling bin which any of you who follow me on instagram saw my story the other day when i uh bleached some wood some driftwood that i found yeah that freaked some people out but it looks amazing i’ll probably show it on the channel one day there we go so i’m just going to tidy up get rid of this snow scene and we’ll do the charcoal once we whizzed it up because i want to see that difference fully uh if you’re interested folks my daughter did just lick a lemon i think i’ll save that for the patreon edit at uh you literally you still eating that lemon okay all right wizzy wizzy wizzy [Music] that is blooming gorgeous there is no lumps of lemon left in there like a boss the sugar’s dissolved in there you can see the pulp if you want you can pass that through so i’m going to take my lemonade pulp and fluid right and we’re going to just pass it through here you’re gonna see we’re gonna get just the nice pure filtered but still quite sweet and concentrated juice there and the pulp here which we’re gonna reuse okay give me a bit of time do help it if you want but this should get thicker in a minute it’s gonna be very sweet tasting as well if you wanna haven’t sorry look at that smaller apple sauce actually oh and you can i’ve never talked about this before you could do this uh with limes i’m not sure how that would taste limeade i suppose but you can also do it with oranges you could make your own funky orange aid okay in goes a couple of ice cubes just to make it nice and cool and again some water boom chicka wow wow so there we go that is it just dropping through uh i mean and basically this is this is the lemonade done now you can have that with ice straight into a jug in fact i wish i put it into a jug i probably will do in a minute but what i want to do i’m not gonna i don’t want to ruin it okay i’ve never made this before so i’m gonna divide this by half and run it through the blender one more time with the activated charcoal and once you’re at this stage now if you taste it you want it sweeter a little bit more sugar you want it less sweet add more water that’s it and i have had a little sip of it off camera lush i’m really happy with it but get your ratios right okay look at that look can you see it the texture’s on and stuff that’s crazy it’s just sat there like an angry dark cloud all right so lid on oh gosh we should have some black lemonade any moment now what the that’s like magic that is so black i don’t even need a wizard anymore that just went whoop i’ll change color ice and i’m taking this straight from the beaker itself oh my gosh that is so weird that is so weird let’s just see if we can make it look a little bit more lemonady now now that that’s lemonade now isn’t it yeah my normal lemonade that’s so good it’s spring and it tastes like summer well this tastes like halloween oh my gosh that tastes exactly the same except i feel like maybe i should have whizzed it a teeny bit longer i’m still getting a slightly granular taste of the charcoal something i never thought i’d ever say i love the fact that i’m drinking something that my body doesn’t really want to digest ah it’s worked it tastes exactly the same as this i think for a halloween kind of vibey thing or just something to freak your friends out it could be amazing um i probably i put about a heaped teaspoon in there probably needed about half if that but i did find a healthier version lemonade recipe so let’s do that now so rather than the sugar maple syrup all right so apparently for this other one this holds 710 mils by the way we need 500 ml of water and now we need to juice a lemon and there’s an amazing gadget for that my kitchen smells amazing it looks so clean that was about two and a half to three lemons in total 400 mils it’s not even lemonade it’s just lemon juice okay and this is going to be our sweetness so rather than sugar this is some maple syrup and this um was actually quite expensive and it’s not even the good stuff uh i think i can talk for hours about maple syrup all the stuff that i’ve found out about it but about 100 grams of it wow so again activated charcoal is just sitting on the top you can’t even see it brilliant it does look like some really dodgy cider that i’ve probably had once upon a time i’m pouring half it over my work top amazing daddy’s made lemonade huh you said homeschooling is not fun that you wanna try it no okay so let’s have a go uh the maple syrup very foamy look at that oh wow that’s actually really really nice oh i think i found a new lemonade that’s amazing and i think healthy i mean i put like 170 grams of sugar in there i’m not sure exactly the maple syrup properties and ratio and stuff but there’s something nice about that that is really refreshing and it’s got the tang of maple syrup to it it’s got a little bit more depth but either of them work it’s it’s it’s quite new to me this whole activated charcoal thing i’m not an ambassador for it i’m not trying to promote it i just wanted to do something fun if you want to see more there are lots of recipes i can do and i think my follow-up one would be a black pizza crust i’m really   3. Tough crowd here. You need to be responsible for your own well-being. If you need meds for something, you need to see what may interact with them in a negative way. A decent pharmacist will ask if you have any questions when you pick them up. A simple Google search before introducing a new ingredient into your diet that you aren't 100% sure about can warn you of possible conflicts that could/should convince you not to ingest them. Barry isn't a medical professional, and should not be held liable for someone's unwillingness to read the warnings that come with their medications, or their unwillingness to read his own comments in the video description. Calls for him to take down the video, re-upload with a disclaimer, or otherwise feel responsible for someone else not caring enough about their own health is being ridiculous. He's just a guy making YouTube videos hoping to benefit others and make a living. If his content makes you fearful, stop watching it and seek psychological help.

  7. i love using honey in lemonade, granted i still use some sugar but i also add a bit of honey witch makes it taste a bit better, well to me at least, family doesnt like it or even lemons for most of them lol 😸

  9. Just something that popped to mind from the lemon bit at the start.

    A lot, and I mean a LOT, of red food colorings, are made from ground up and boiled bugs too. It's more commonly known as "Carmine", but is also referred to as "Cochineal", "Natural Red 4" or as an additive "E102". It's so widely used, both in the US and EU, that if you've ever eaten anything with some sorta red coloring added to it, you've most likely chowed down on some scaled insects. Yum yum!

    Ain't no vegan or vegetarian myself, so doesn't bother me, but know fair few folks that are. They mainly use beet juice or ground up blueberries as a substitute.

  11. YOu really shouldn't blend the lemon with the pith and peel still attached. They add a huge amount of bitterness to the liquid that no amount of sugar can cover up
