I have been in a sweet spot with late 2010s Williams Selyem wines lately, and I was eager to give this bottle a try because I have limited familiarity with the Rochioli Riverblock vineyard.
In spite of the sun streaming through my kitchen window this afternoon, I cannot capture via phone camera how vibrant of a brick the color on this wine is. Gorgeous clear almost-rust.
Bright fruits hit the nose immediately. Orange peel is dominant, with a tart red berry following (cranberry, or sour cherry, maybe?). It’s evoking holiday relish, but it’s not wrong for summer.
Speaking of summer: this wine is very drinkable on a hot day. The palate takes that cranberry-orange note and pairs it with vanilla and spice (I’m getting anise primarily). Second glass (about 30 min later, slow-ox) hones the flavor down to the wine equivalent of an Old Fashioned.
Mouthfeel is clean, as is finish. I’m considering chilling the bottle between pours to give it a little extra crispness.
