we have uncovered more victims of a scam targeting lowincome families we first brought you this story on Friday after several people living in the Delaware Valley reached out sharing that money in their snap accounts was disappearing this problem is now impacting viewers in Delaware and Pennsylvania in just a couple of minutes we’ll give you the numbers to call for help CBS News Philadelphia’s Nikki dentry is following up and sat down with the city of Chester mom who wants to bring attention to this devastating issue impacting her and other families they left me 95 cents you can’t buy anything I can’t even buy a meal they a leave me nothing Jasmine Campos also known as Jazzy is left with questions after she says her SNAP benefit account was nearly emptied last month I’m like why why I didn’t go here but is these stores not only has she never shopped at these stores in Philadelphia but she says she’s never heard of them immediately the Chester mom of three notes she filed a complaint with the Delaware County assistant office and then got a new new EBT card here we are June still no Replacements there was no money attached to that new card Campo says she was desperate to make sure her kids could eat so I fasted for the first 3 days and said okay you know what let me worry about the kids eating a part of me deep down was how long can I go she’s since leaned on her family for help and this is my at home Garden has turned to her backyard tomatoes herbs and peppers to help supplement meals we had lettuce um but we already ate that up we first reported this issue on Friday since then more than a dozen people living in the Delaware Valley including campost reached out saying their victims too CBS News Philadelphia reached back out to the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services a spokesperson did not provide any new information today instead referring back to what they sent us on Friday since the start of the Year DHS said it’s received more than 2400 requests to replace stolen benefits restoring more than 1,600 Statewide for this scam the state believes card skimming devices are being used to steal SNAP benefits I’ve been blessed to have a supportive family but I had to speak up for those who don’t have it Campo says she was told it could take 30 to 45 days to see her benefits return she adds her mom who was also a victim earlier this year was told the same thing in Chester Nikki dentry CBS News Philadelphia nationally the USDA oversees the snap program a spokesperson confirms the agency is aware of benefits theft reports in some states but it would not provide data on how many cases and what areas of the country those reports came from if you are affected we’d like to help you if you need food right now the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services says that you can call 211 or visit PA 211.org to connect with local food resources you can also go to feeding pa.org to find local food banks and other food assistance programs and if you need to get that stolen money back in your account you have to file a claim you can do that through your my compass PA mobile app or contact your County Assistance Office if you have any questions about this you can call the DHS customer service center that number is 877395 8930 if you missed any of these numbers or these websites or you need information for New Jersey or Delaware go to CBS philadelphia.com
