I had read on here to be careful with the soapstone sold by kamado joe, so I initially bought a cast iron pan that I love. Well now that Amazon put a small discount on the soapstone I thought I’d give it a chance.
Took two whole cooks and the crack just started spreading rapidly during the second cook. Pretty disappointing product.

Don’t worry about it. If it splits, you can warranty it, (or just straight up return and get another) no sense in crying over split soap stone. It really doesn’t matter until it breaks in 2.
I’ve had both of mine for 3 years and fucking love them. So much better than cast iron.
The Jr stone has had a crack through the middle for a while, never broke. Just make sure it’s properly supported. 👍
Is amazon a legit place to buy this and get warranty?
Owned mine for 4 years. It’s got a little crack, probably from me not supporting the bottom of it with a support when I first got it. I use it for searing steak. So it regularly hits temps of 700+
I would be concerned with any cracks or chips. I might be wrong but doesn’t soapstone contain silica in it?
