Put one finger on the top at the narrowest point (index) and other (thumb) on the widest part at the bottom. If firm it’s unripe. Gives about 3-4mm ish ripe for a salad. Gives about 6-7mm ish it’s ripe for guacamole. Hope this helps

That looks like a Hass variety, in addition to softening, the skin goes a dark purple colour when ripe.

Wait, that doesn’t look ripe yet.

Not ripe yet. Store at room temperature for 2-3 days, it’ll be perfect for consumption

Put it in a paper bag for a day or two, when soft, place it in your palm, use a knife to cut to the pit, rotate avocado under knife to slice flesh all the way around. Grab both half’s and twist apart. Use a spoon to scoop out flesh. Enjoy!

Now, a food hack to get it to ripen faster, store it in the same bowl as bananas, apples or kiwi and the ethylene that those fruits produce will ripen it. For faster results, cover the ball or store in a folded paper bag.

Not a avocado lover over here but that‘s not ripe

This looks like a “Florida avocado” and if my guess is correct, it’s ready to eat. You’ll be able to tell based on the pit when you cut it open, but if I’m wrong then it’s too late 😂
