After the early start on Friday, I’ve gone for a spot of lunch today in Guildford and headed down to the Meat The Greek which is known as the best takeaway in Guildford, they’ve recently built a restaurant so I thought I’d head down there and give it a go!

hi everyone really good to see you again today where are we today we’ve come to Guilford now we come to Guilford for one special reason we’re going to meet the Greek now the last time I done a Greek restaurant that was one of the best reviews I’ve ever done a 10 star and that was at Andy near Camden loved it loved every aspect of it so this is actually the only the second time we’ve actually been to a Greek restaurant now this one won the award in 2023 for the best restaurant in the whole of Guilford it’s won numerous Awards as well so I’m really looking forward to it as always let’s give it a go careful here on the road yep [Music] here we are sitting outside now you want to sit inside there’s a loads of seating area inside and outside sea in here and a little bit more behind me as well one thing I don’t like here though is you got got to scan here for the menu they actually don’t have any paper menus so you got to be a little bit Tech friendly if you like uh me as you know I’m useless so just bear with me while I tell you what I’m ordering or while I’ve ordered start off here I’ve ordered a pot of their chili sauce which is2 then as I go down I’ve got a Greek salad which comes with fresh tomatoes cucumbers authentic feta olives all the rest of it that’s £750 I’ve ordered the chicken Yos um which is pit bread with french fries Mayo mustard mustard um and obviously chicken as well and as we keep going further down I’ve ordered the mixed slaki meal it comes with a pork skewer chicken skewer and Kebab skew that’s £15 one thing I’ve got to tell you I actually really don’t like doing that I prefer to have a look at the menu take my time browse over it I mean that’s just painful and my apologies there if it came across as being painful me just calling and reading it all out to you however it’s all about the food isn’t it so I’ll see you when the food arrives get yourself some water being a good boy today now you can go up and order if you’re sitting inside you can go up and Order inside but because I’m sitting outside and having to use the the dreaded uh phone what do we do without phones I mean without phones now we’re absolutely stuffed oh excellent thank you perfect that’s great stuff thank you very much lovely thank you and on Q it all arrives right let me get himself organized and I’ll see you guys shortly do you like the presentation there yeah I like that presentation [Music] so here’s the food I got my OS there I do like that presentation before I say anything do like the presentation but first impressions that chicken looks a little bit on the dry side obviously comes in with the pitter your Spanish onions or maybe Greek onions tomato and that looks like a mustard mayo as well yeah just First Impressions it just looks that bit dry so let’s go dive in and and see what it tastes like never judge the book by its cover it certainly looks dry but it isn’t dry what I do like is the marinade so I just want you to take a close-up on that whatever the marinade is on that that is Punchy it’s full of flavor there’s no heat so it isn’t like oh oh that’s really really spicy see what it does do it livens the T taste buds up I want to try it with a little bit of this um Mayo so let’s grab that let’s dive in with this mustard mayo it’s not a strong mustard it’s actually quite sweet the only way of doing this really is getting some pit sort of creating a little wrap here ah again I prefer it when you can there you go I’m kind of getting it open bear with me I’ll see you in a couple of seconds right I’ve managed to put it all together little bit more of that mustard May on top you as we sitting here now the sun’s come out take look behind me meet the Greek Brilliant Blue Skies yeah I could almost close me eyes am I in Greece no I’m definitely in Guilford let’s dive in here let’s see what is tell you what I do like that real freshness there the onions really brings out the flavors in your mouth but that nearly that um mustard mayo that brings all the flavors together and that does go tremendously well with that chicken that does go well do you like the Tomato there yeah am I impress red I am actually I am reasonably impressed um again my first impressions oh toar me that looks dry but it isn’t so all in all I was a little bit wrong there should never prejudge what I’m going to do I’m going to finish this and dive in here obviously the camera is going to help me out and I need to hurry up on the salad cuz I don’t want that going cold do I see you guys shortly let’s have some more of that mustard on there I did eventually drop it just on that euros the burnt ends there that gives it a real charcoal flavor and I haven’t mentioned that that yeah can’t go over the flavors of that that actually was very tasty really tasty and again I’ll keep going back to my first impressions it looks dry it looks dry got to stop it I’ve got to stop looking at things and think oh is that good is that not good because that actually was very tasty now onto my slaki I’ve got again pit bread going to be breaded right out today the tomatoes the onions again um fries it’s got some I think it’s oregano on the fries then the pork the chicken and the minced meat there and the T Tu Zaki I’m bound to get all these wrong so you know what I’m like so what I’m going to do let’s try it all let’s try it individually let’s try the the meat got to tell you before I say anything a couple just sat down um Nexus over here here um there 5 minutes bang food it’s arrived 5 minutes later and um again if you saw as I was trying to explain the menu but only just finished actually ordering and again the food’s out almost straight away so very quick service talk about fast food it’s div in here with this yogurt and cucumber got the charcoal on the outside and again which been on the The Griddle you can see the gridle marks on there that is good I really like the intense meat flavor some meat coming through and that sauce there that helps cuz there’s a little bit of spice so again with the cucumber and um the yogurt that brings that little bit of spice down it’s not heavy spice just a little bit of spice down and don’t worry any of you panicking Gary we want to see you cry we want to see you sweat I’ll dive into that guy in a few minutes just want to enjoy the flavors first so moving on let’s try one of the one of the fries okay you know what I’m going to say fries are fries had to say it yeah there my chicken I’ve got a big piece there I need to cut that cuz uh I’ll be munching away for a long time on that actually that is a bit disappointing that chicken is so got the chicken cubes all pushed in but it is actually a little bit that is dry there’s not a huge amount of flavor to it either no that chicken was a little bit disappointing yeah let’s try the pork do me come on come on again lots of herbs on the outside of that pork now that’s a little bit disappointing you take a look there’s loads of herbs on the outside and again it’s got nice Sheen to it the glissing on there however again that’s just a little overdone not dramatic Bally so but just that tiny bit overdone so yeah I’m a little bit disappointed with the chicken and a little bit disappointed with the pork however the meat no issues whatsoever do going to move that to the side cuz as I said don’t want that fell to go cold so let’s just move that to one side again all right on model here hold it hold it hold it I know what you’re all waiting for let’s not go mad Gary let’s have it with the the meat chili is a FY red see lots of little chilies in there CH it’s got sweetness and the usual heat why do I keep doing this oh dear right definitely leaving that diving into the F cuz that will dampen that down that is a fary chili I mean comes in this put a little bit more on just so you can get us closeup and see doing that and I’m going to have to eat it I but that is a furry chili sauce right so here’s the traditional Greek salad so you got the feta cheese nicely placed on top got the oregano on it as I move it across you have the onions the tomatoes the Cucumber enough my olives some green peppers as well and oh with olive oil imagine it’s real quality olive oil as well so let’s get a bit of the feta I do do like my Greek salad I obviously like my meat as well but when I’m when I’ve been out in Greece and especially in K Fu I things I love for lunch is just having a simple salad with a nice glass of white wine nice and crisp that salad is so fresh and that’s what makes Greek salad I think amongst the best what’s going on up there this helicopter been flying around for ages and clearly looking for somebody what are you been up to no okay they’re pitted olives so again there’s no stone in there so you’re not there oh Jesus the tooth’s gone it’s quintessentially grease on a plate and that that was always as I said my lunchtime goto overall excellent I do like it love the flavors in there alog together that is my favorite here I’m disappointed slightly over well you press it and you can see some juice coming out was slightly over slightly over that is A1 um not the greatest of fries but yeah portions nice portions lunchtime 12 15 £750 yeah do you know if I was actually going out for lunchtime um I was coming here again I would definitely just go for my salad cuz I think for lunch time that is perfect evening time definitely dive into one of these two guys right as I said don’t want this to go cold I’ll see you shortly let’s move this over here and let’s dive in that’s my favorite I’ll let you uh tuck into a little bit of that I tell you what I’m laughing came turn around and said I’ve got no faith in you getting this right and I guarantee I won’t okay uh what I’m going to do those of you said you don’t order enough desserts on the channel so that’s what I’ve done I’ve ordered dessert a PTO calap he’s giving me the thumbs up I know that’s wrong as well now take a look at it here basically it’s a traditional Greek um dessert it’s orange syrup going through into the sponge presentation wise I’ve got to say there’s loads of this syrup all pouring out underneath it there you see just take a quick glance there you see all the syrup coming through coming down other thing is quite funny was uh the way to took away the chili sauce and I said blind that’s a bit FY he goes oh yeah he goes none of us eat that he goes way too hot he goes he goes totally mad he goes no one no one has that he goes why did you try it typical Gary let’s dive in here take it just not oh this is oozing with orange my lord it’s made that sponge look at it that sponge is not just moist it’s moist it’s bursting it’s bursting with orange flavors it syrup is really sweet real Rich so I’m going to dive in them oh yeah soon as you do that again if you like your oranges this is the dessert for you 110% now I got to say I like that but for some people that might be literally that bit too sweet cuz it is very rich very very sweet but it’s made that sponge as I say so so moist the other thing about it it’s really moish sitting there diving in and then then diving in so yeah would I order this again definitely but if you got a sweet tooth this is the one for you if if you if you don’t like your desserts too sweet and Rich give it give it a Miss but I’m definitely not going to give it a Miss dive in and then I’m going to tell you my final scores what do you reckon some very good couple not so good has that saved the day most definitely it has come outside and I’ve come to Guilford Castle the grounds here beautiful didn’t know it existed absolutely gorgeous I tell you what was really good as well was the service I’ve never been in a restaurant as quick so we place the I plac the order bang 5 minutes later everything there staff everything cleaned down so quickly service there super quick inside the restaurant that’s really nice and I do like the actual seating area outside so all in all that part of it was top draw now on to the bill I haven’t got one have I done it all on the phone basically with everything in there Kendra just sh40 marks what marks am we going to give it we’re going to do it a little bit differently cuz load of you said we want to know what the cameraman thinks so I asked the cameram man what Mark did he give it he gave it an eight out of 10 he really enjoyed ened it he gave it an 8 out of 10 me I was a little bit harsher because I if you like I thought it was a little bit dry um the chicken and the pork that a tiny bit dry I’m giving it a 7 and 1 half out of 10 7 and a half had they been perfect had they been done A1 mark would have been a lot higher problem is Andes is up there that is top and that’s not just for a Greek restaurant that’s for any restaurant that’s that’s going to be very hard to beat really enjoyed myself today I love the grounds here feel quite really relaxed love to hear your comments have you Hi Gary I forgot to mention I went to Greek restaurant copy of review, I just got two takeaway souvlaki $33:80 they was just folded over not wrapped properly it fell to bits in the park went into the bin. I don’t eat like a pig if you want to eat like a pig get two waste of fucking money never again
4 minutes into the video and I could already see, the giros was dry, the skewers looked like they were frozen before. The fries look dead 😅

Guildford, my humble hometown! I used to go to Meat the Greek pretty frequently for lunch and dinner as it was always great value. Absolutely loved the mixed chicken and pork gyros portion they used to do, with fries, onions and mayo mustard sauce. I haven't been back for a while though as I feel that it's gotten pretty pricey over the last few years.
If your nt happy with the over cooked meats send it back ffs
Very disappointing. It shows you awards can be given for various reasons, not only food quality. Some of them you can just buy. Also, being among the 20% of over 65s who do not have a smartphone, I wouldn't even be able to see the menu!
I hate ordering via a QR code….to the point that I simply refuse and will leave the restaurant if they won’t provide a hard copy
Really pleased to see you forging your way to 100,000 subscribers Gary – so well deserved. I think part of your appeal is that you genuinely seem to be a nice and honest chap, providing very easy, interesting and engaging content. You should definitely think about doing something special when you hit your big 100,000. Maybe a video of your top 10 favorite venues/meals and / or a series of videos from usual / overseas location. I'm sure you've already got something planned, but it definitely needs to include balloons! 😉 All the best mate

I think we all have to get used to the idea of ordering food through an app. It has the advantage of doing away with the bit where someone says “let’s just split the bill” and someone else saying “but I only had a main, you had 3 courses” etc., I’m sure you’ve been there. Must say that through the camera the food looked fine initially but the meat did look dry when you showed us a closeup. As a result of your video, I’ve dragged the misses round the shops to get the ingredients for a Greek salad, and she doesn’t even like them. I did discover that Lidl’s pretend fetta is very close to the real thing and is only 85p (cheapskate), so I have you to thank for that. Probably like many was interested to hear from your silent partner (son) awarding an 8/10 whereas you only got 3/10 a few weeks ago. Do you think you will ever persuade him to speak or appear in future videos? Could be good for improving his confidence.

"Fries are fries" -I disagree Gary. Try a place in Potters Bar called "Tavernaki".They serve "hand cut Cyprus chips" which are out of this world and far superior to your shop bought frozen Fries or "pommes frites" as they are called in Europe.
Also you said at the end you were impressed about getting food within %5 minutes of placing the order.That would smack of the food being pre prepared or pre cooked(not ideal) .I would much prefer to wait and receive dishes freshly cooked to order or what do you think Gary?
Me personally after watching this review ,I would save myself the money and try somewhere else.

Not too far from Guildford Gary, I can recommend two places in Egham Hight Street. The Golden Cafe , Breakfasts and dinners, and the Magic Wok a Chinese restaurant.
Should always have normal menus and option to order face to face cause a lot of people are no good with technology especially older people.

Gary, the meat should have been served eith lemon wedges which add moisture and flavour. Here on Crete QR coded menus were introduced post covid. Great to see you enjoying Greek food again!

Excellent review and filming. As an ex restauranteur, if my patrons had to scan a code for the menu and order I would feel as I had not done my job properly. I like a real menu. How times have changed.

I love a sweet and stodgy cake for dessert but at that level of sweetness, surely it needs some cream or ice cream to cut through it? I can feel my teeth rotting just looking at it, although it looks good. Almost like a polenta cake.
I think you were generous with this one, Gary. 6.5/10. Not bad but far from great. Obviously some reheating going on which is always a bit disappointing.

To say it's a multi award winning restaurant, I was expecting the food to look a bit better. It looked like not a lot of care, or thought had gone into it. I know simple food can often be the tastiest, but it really didn't look anything special.
Always a huge red flag if the food comes out that fast, Gary.
The trick to marinating chicken for souvlaki is to use very little salt. This leaves the meat more juicy. It can be salted after it has been grilled.
Just watching this sitting on the balcony in Corfu 😊 It never tastes as good as over here unfortunately and ive tired plenty in the UK 🍻

There are restaurants where I live which also do not offer physical menus and I avoid them like the plague. Total turn off.
There should ALWAYS be paper menus available on standby – poor!

Gosh, your going for meat overload on this vid Gary. The meat was hanging around or prepared earlier, it came out way too quick for "freshly cooked" (not)so 🤔👎 for this……. Pittas looked nicely toasted and fresh salad, shame the meat let it down….😮
Must admit Gary. I’ve seen worse. But such quick service had me wondering. My local kebab shop on ordering to collecting is 10 min And that’s good if that quick. Excellent tho again. Thank you both for great content

Greek & Turkish restaurants all the same in the UK. Crap stuff from the cash & carry. No “cooking” involved. Menus identical. No point in reviewing them individually Gary
People do eat with their eyes ! I don’t know clearly, but I suspect there is either hot holding going on or frozen and ping !!
