Hi everyone!

I am desperate to find out what my local Korean restaurant uses in this sauce I’ve been obsessed with for about a year now. I get fried chicken over rice and the sauce is in some random ketchup bottle on the counter. It is so good that i just want to eat bowls of rice just with sauce.

I believe the sauce is some sort of gochujang sauce. It is spicy and darker red colour. It isn’t too sweet, and not overbearing in smell and taste like gochujang is, but I can still taste it slightly so I know it’s in there. The sauce is not exactly salty (I don’t think it has a lot of soy sauce, if any), it is a bit more on the sour side.

I have tried different variations of making sauce with the gochujang products in the pictures but i can never get it right. It always tastes too strong and too sweet. Maybe the sauce is slightly watered down?

Does anyone have any idea what this sauce could be? I would also love any suggestions to get the sauce the way I’m describing.

Sorry if this post isn’t clear enough! I seriously don’t know how to properly describe it. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help!

Was the sauce a bit thin? It may be chojang. The “cho” is short for vinegar and “jang” refers to gochujang. It uses equal parts gochujang and vinegar with a bit of sugar, garlic, and sesame seeds.

Was the sauce like mayonnaise thickness? It may be bibimbop sauce.
