I’m firmly on team pick before fully ripe.

You get the tomato before something else does, tomatoes have a pretty narrow ideal ripening temp range, and I’ve personally never been able to taste a difference between vine ripened and indoor ripened.

Pick. It’s gonna be great and you don’t want to miss out or have it split.

I pick as soon as the color changes. Watching them change on the kitchen counter is my favorite part!

Also once they start to show red they are done pulling from the plant, so I don’t think it makes much difference.

  4. Pick, once it has some color all the flavor from being on the vine is set in. Otherwise the pest might get it.

pick, pop it upside down on your kitchen counter and let it finish!

I pick them at this stage, birds love the ripe ones

Test by tugging at it. If it comes off easily then it’s ready. If not, wait!

I like to eat my tomatoes and not have other things eat them. Pick it.

Once you reach 30% blush your fruit has all the sugars it’s ever going to have so you might as well keep them out of the beaks of neighborhood birds. Unless you’re feeling generous.

Conversely…do you let a chipmunk nibble a hole in it or keep it all to yourself?

Pick and counter or brown baggy

Pick. Put upside down on counter to ripen

  13. Depends how many rodents and birds are in your yard that may feast on them.
