How To Make Garlic Mashed Potatoes: Recipe: from scratch: Easy: How to Make Garlic Mashed Potatoes: Make creamy garlic mashed potatoes: Simple to make with red skin potatoes. Di’s Recipes & Videos @ http://www.DishinWithDi.com I make mine with milk that I heat in the microwave, so the mashed potatoes stay hot. Without milk, they won’t be creamy, but you can use low fat or skim milk for this recipe. Garlic mashed red potatoes are my favorites, but I do make regular mashers with russet potatoes as well! Using the mixer helps to get them light and fluffy. You can mash them by hand and they should come out without lumps, as long as they are fully cooked. I hate lumps in mashed potatoes! They are perfect with gravy too! I have a Mushroom Gravy or you could call it Mushroom Sauce, that is over the top! I had it with these potatoes and a pan seared Filet Mignon that I cooked along with some Roasted Asparagus and it was heaven! You wouldn’t believe how simple and easy it was to make everything! Oh, I almost forgot about the Caesar Salad with Homemade Croutons! A Really great idea for Valentine’s Day Dinner or any special occasion (Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, etc) You should give them a try! hi I’m Diane Keda and today on dishing with dye I’m going to show you how to make garlic mashed potatoes really creamy and delicious let me show you what you need and we’ll get started today on dishing with [Music] dye you need some whole milk some regular butter some finely minced garlic some salt and white pepper and some red potatoes you want to try to cut all of your potatoes about the same size and there’s something else that I like to do to my potatoes um little holes in them here if there’s some imperfections like this in the potatoes sometimes they get like um you know little hard spots in there and I guess they call them eyes when they start growing most potato peelers have a little Scoopy thing on the end like that and this is what it’s for you just go in there and you twirl it around a little bit like that and you see just get that guy out of there so you don’t want that because we are going to be using uh these potatoes with the skins on and red potatoes are great for that so you just go around and if there’s any uh rough spots or anything that doesn’t look so good you want to just take that off okay so the important thing is to try and get potatoes that are um the nicest looking as possible so you don’t have to you know do too much of that now to cut them just take the potato and cut it in half all right and then what I like to do is go down the center and then just cut it in half again so if you buy potatoes that are basically about the same size you’ll be able to do that with all the potatoes so just give it a cut now this one u a little bit bigger maybe I would cut it like this okay and now I’m just going to take these potatoes and get over to the stove and get everything started I have a pot with some water in it Heating and it’s actually coming to a boil right now and it has about an inch of water in it so I’m going to add some salt and the rule of thumb is basically about a half a teaspoon of salt per cup of water so when it comes to a boil you want to add the salt in and then add in your potatoes carefully now I’m going to cover this and let this come up to a boil when it comes to a boil I’m going to reduce the Heat and let this cook for about 20 minutes or until the potatoes are fork tender the potatoes are done they cooked for about 20 minutes and now they’re fork tender so pretty soft and I’ve taken the milk and I heated that in the microwave until it’s hot so it’s a little steamy so in my stand mixer I’m going to do the job on these potatoes you could use a um potato masher if you want or you can use a hand mixer to do this if you want to but I like my stand mixer the best I’m going to mix these up a little bit to break them up and they’re soft so they’re going to break up very easy okay that looks about right now I’m going to take the minced garlic and I’m going to put that in here and this is very finely minced you don’t want anyone uh biting into a big piece of garlic and their mashed potatoes so that goes in and then we’re going to mix it around and we’re going to drizzle in this warm milk now this is a matter of personal preference in my opinion so I have kind of uh a standard amount that I use but you can adjust that according to what you like just going to mix all this in and what you’re looking for is the potatoes to get like nice and Fluffy from the milk so we just want to make sure everybody body including this guy it’s good already gets all mashed up I’d say that looks about perfect for me and now the same goes with the butter I have a certain amount of butter that I use because I’ve made this over and over again and this is going to be a matter of personal preference but make sure your butter is soft see it’s not fresh out of the refrigerator you want it nice and soft you don’t want anything uh cooling the potatoes down and if you were doing this for the first time or you’re not sure just gradually add in you know the milk and the butter and taste it and see how it tastes so I’m going to add that in and get that going once that gets a little mixed through just going to add my salt and pepper and again personal preference just going to whip this up right there they are and they’re nice and whipped up and creamy look at that and the Skins they give it a lot of color get that all into your serving Bowl obviously I have to taste these bad boys so really creamy perfect amount of garlic and no lumps when I was a kid my mom made mashed potatoes all the time and they always had lumps them sorry Mom I didn’t like them I like my own though want to tell you real quick what I do when I make mashed potatoes for dinner I always make them first and I’ll take them in the bowl like this after you know they’re all mixed up and everything and I put them in the microwave I just leave them sitting there and then when it’s time for you know the meal to be served when everything else is ready I pop the microwave on for a minute I give it a star another minute I just do that for a few minutes until they get nice and hot and then I just take them right out there so that’s just a helpful hint for you the recipe as usual is on my website dishing with die.com and I hope I made your life a little easier more enjoyable and delicious I’ll see you next time [Music] bye-bye

Good food and Hot Chef! :0
This is gonna help me build some serious muscle…
thanks for the help, as a college student I really appreciate it
TY! 😉
stop eating the product.
Thanks Di!!! I'm going to try this soon. Love the smile too! 😉
😉
Thankyou! I will make this tonight! 🙂
I like your recipe. What I usually do is sauté the garlic in butter and olive oil. Add to the potatoes when ready, the garlic sauce, sour cream, parsley and a hard Italian grated cheese. My kids love this. But tonight I may add warmed milk and see how it turns out.
5:27 BURN!
Hey Di, I just live love watching how you make something difficult , simple esp if you're not a cook😉
thanx, very easy to make now
Just began to watch your videos n I already love you for being the first YouTube chef to remove the "eyes" of the potatoes!..
why make it with skin on it
This is awesome!
Love your stuff!!!!
how many potatoes you used?
Great recipe. It would be helpful if you could list the specific ingredients in the comments section above, as your early part of the video simply says "some whole milk", "some minced garlic" – more specifics would be helpful. Thanks!
You are so well organized. Thank you for sharing. Am definitely
going to try making this recipe in my cake mixed blender.
Exceptional!
For some reason, mashed potatoes are more of an art then a science. I like to use ukon golds (they can get mealy, but they are nice and sweet). It took me several times, mainly holidays, to come with the right consistency that I like:). I also like garlic, and I use roasted, and about 10x as much.
You dripped something Di… my Jaw!!!
Wow! I'm surprised I thought everyone loved there mashed potatoes with some lumps…it tells me that they are not the powder type. Oh well! 🙂 thanks for the recipe!
Awesome Di. I will be making your potatoes, grilled aspargus and a rack of lamb on the bbq (not the potatoes) for my girl and me its our anniversary this week. so Iam gonna do it all up. thanks for the great recipe.
"Lumps" are only bad if you under cook the potatoes. With skin-on mashed potatoes….I'd prefer to control them with a hand device instead of a mixer…..so I didn't over-work and end up with glue.
I shall do this…..
Dang- you got the DELUXE mixer! !! ! (ha)
OH MY Gosh! this recipe is so easy…thanks for sharing. made some today with some Pork Spare Ribs on the grill…Yummy!
Yummy
you're so gorgeous!
great video
I can't wait to try and make your smothered pork chops after watching this. Seems like a match made in heaven
So glad I'm not the only one who digs the gross looking bits out of the potatoes. Almost every other recipe I see with red potatoes, nobody does that. >__<
I usually have to make changes to a recipe to make it the way I want it, but with a plastic potato masher this turned out better than I expected, they looked amazing and tasted even better.
Thank you Diane for this recipe. Every time I make garlic mashed potatoes, I ONLY follow your recipe. Easy peezy. ☺️👍
My ma does the same way. But she roasts the garlic first, and adds a touch of mayo.
so easy to make☺
I'm out of garlic and I really want to make this mashed potato tonight. Any suggestions on what to use instead?
Thank you for making this so easy ! And great explanation!!! Doing this tonight !
mm mmm mmmm looks delicious, oh and the foods looks alright aswell..
hi.looks realy yummy.
This is a random question probably already asked but can u use some other then whole milk? For those of use that are lactose intolerant with out sacrificing flavor
Microwave is a deal breaker
