I moved to Pittsburgh (6b) from Houston (9b) this past winter. Growing tomatoes in the oppressive humid heat of Houston was extremely challenging and after much heartbreak I gave up during my last years there.
I desperately tried to find a community garden plot here in PGH as my home only has a small and completely shaded yard, to no avail. But my house has a flat room in front of my bedroom so I climbed out the window and threw some pallets and grow bags out there and hoped for the best. It’s pretty unprotected and PGH weather can be kind of intense so I wasn’t sure if I could hope for a bountiful harvest.
But as of today, everything looks great, and I just wanted to share from progress with this community. Thanks for giving me a place to stay excited about tomatoes! Very excited about growing them in this beautiful Pennsylvania summer climate.

Looks great! I might snip off the yellow lower leaves, but it looks happy!

I’m in Houston and my tomatoes are struggling! Glad to see you are doing better though! Grow on.
