Today I recieved my soapstone.
After unboxing the stone I noticed a chip along the edge.
Should I return this and expect a perfect stone for the price, or is this acceptable?
I do understand that the stone will work perfectly fine.
Thanks

I woud return it, stone should be smooth

I’d probably just keep it. I received one similar, returned it, and the replacement just had different imperfections. I doubt you’ll get a flawless one. Must be something about cutting them
I would keep it as long as there are no cracks from the chipping.
Natural stone doesn’t always cut clean, and once you start grilling on it the stone will turn black and willbe (mostly) unnoticeable. It’s also on the edge which will not effect the food you would cook on it.
That won’t affect the cook. Keep it. If it cracks from normal use, contact them for a replacement. Otherwise it’s a slab from natural stone, and it’s not a problematic defect.
They’re brittle as hell. If you return it you’re just as likely to get another chipped or cracked one as you are a perfect one.
Do some high heat cooks with it see if it falls apart, it’s really the invisible imperfections you have to worry about and can cause failure.
This. It’s not a cast item. It is natural stone with natural imperfections. That chip will not hurt the performance of the stone. I will even venture to say that it does not affect your cooking area. When it cracks, warranty it. They come with a 2 year warranty so keep your receipt.
In my opinion it will look much worse after 2 or three cooks, enjoy it while you can
My first stone had a small chipped corner. The store told me to keep it and sent another one FOC which arrived in perfect condition. I haven’t used it yet. I’ve been using the chipped one without problems
Looks fine to me
Definitely would return that. It shouldn’t be that badly chipped.
