New taco place just opened on Queen Street East, right where the original Burgers Priest used to be.

The owner is from Mexico City, and the tacos are legit. Great food, fun vibe. The front countertop is lined with four molcajetes, each with a different homemade salsa. The brisket tacos were probably my favourite, especially topped with the darkest salsa. I don’t know the name of it, or how it’s made, but it’s magical.

Awesome. Will be trying them out asap as we live down the street.

I’m not saying these are the only tacos available in Toronto that really reminded me of CDMX.

But they’re the only ones I’ve found so far.

(Except Los Campos, they’re pretty good too.)

I think a big part of it is the fat. These are greasy in the good way, and fat is flavour. Also they chopped up that campechano right in front of me. Mouth-watering.

The nopales and mushrooms+huitlacoche are excellent veg options.

Tortillas are from Maizal – next best thing to making them in-house.

I was only whelmed by the salsas. They didn’t seem homemade when I went.

Churros are good for what they are (frozen them deep-fried). The cajeta filling was great.

Luis the owner is a gem. I think he’s from Estado de Mexico which is that state that surrounds Mexico City but sort of the same thing.

OP – the darkest salsa was macha. Probably my fave of their salsas.
