The other day I tried Ben and Jerry’s Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake and Dublin Mudslide (review). The more adventurous base flavors of cheesecake and Irish cream appealed to me, but ended up being on the somewhat artificial side. Today I thought I might try one of Ben and Jerry’s more classic and better selling flavors, Chocolate Fudge Brownie, instead.
Chocolate Fudge Brownie
- DESCRIPTION: “Chocolate ice cream with fudge brownies.” One of Ben and Jerry’s simpler, shorter descriptions. Brownies produced from New York’s Greyston Bakery
- CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM: Sweet, rich, milk chocolate flavor but a little deeper. Not bland. Has a chocolate syrup flavor reminiscent of when you mix Hersheys chocolate syrup in milk. Was palatable at first but did reach sweetness overload as I scarfed down the pint. A lingering sweetness in my mouth.
- TEXTURE: The ice cream base has quite a dense, fudgy texture that was pleasing. Similar to the brownie. One of those ice creams where you have to work a bit to scoop the ice cream.
- FUDGE BROWNIE: A deeper chocolate flavor than the base ice cream. Sort of similar chocolate taste to the chocolate cookie of ice cream sandwiches. Some small and larger pieces (smaller shown). I kind of thought there would be bigger and more pieces.
- OVERALL: A decent ice cream, no weird flavors. Pleasantly dense, fudgy quality to the ice cream base and brownie. However not completely wowed. Sweeter than I want it to be.
- RATING: 7/10. Fairly standard chocolate ice cream with good texture.
Other recommendations:
- Ben and Jerry’s – Phish Food. Chocolate, caramel, marshmallow and chocolate pieces. It might be that the chocolate is the same sweetness. It’s been a long time. I might have liked it better with the marshmallow swirl.
- Ben and Jerry’s – Half Baked. Chocolate and peanut butter ice cream with fudge brownie and cookie dough. Also probably similar but I think this one is more interesting with a second ice cream and second mix in. I don’t know if the brownie is the same but they seem similar from memory.
- Ben and Jerry’s – Impretzively Fudged. Also a sweet chocolate ice cream, but more interesting because the base ice cream is a darker chocolate. The pretzel mix in is salty and crispy, for nice textural contrast.
Still haven’t met a chocolate ice cream I’ve completely liked. The search continues!

I love your chocolate journey because I like eating chocolate ice cream and I don’t want to be disappointed. Since you like phish food I’m trusting you with my taste buds. 😂
