Do most of you leave the fire grate in under a ash basket?
I was gifted an Amazon fire basket for my Mini Max. Curious to see if most of you leave or remove the fire grate?
Thanks.

I dont. Works just fine without it.
I do have an added ash catcher and ash tray at the bottom though.
Clean up is a breeze

The basket replaces the grate.

No.

I set my basket on grate. Rethinking my set up.

Nope. Would restrict air flow
Peacefulrun4
Take the grate out it will help airflow
FeloniousDrunk101
No as the fire grate clogging is what led me to the ash basket

Never ever

No. The point of the basket is to ease cleaning, but also to increase air flow. If you leave the grate in it is restricting both.
YeeClawFunction
I removed it, but smaller pieces fall into the bottom easier. This is probably better for airflow though.

I use the can to collect and minimize waste.

I left mine in because so many not-very-small pieces were falling through the ash basket, felt like I was wasting tons of charcoal. I know this is against the vast majority of people, but meh, it seems to work fine for me, and I still get the ash basket benefits of easy cleanup. I also have a Pit Boss not a BGE, so not sure if the grate is any different (a big circle with many small circle holes in it).

I leave it. Airflow has never been a problem. Always have to slow it down. š¤·š¼

No def not. But as the other guy says, get the ash catcher so its super easy to pull out and dump. I clean my egg every cook pretty much, its that easy.

I leave my grate in and I’ve never had an issue with airflow. I don’t understand why people feel the grate would be an issue.

I do. I find it burns too fast / the temperature is harder to control without it.

For this wire style basket, yes it is still needed⦠if you have the BGE one, the holes are sized like the grate and it is not needed⦠I actually only got The basket because I bought a used egg and the grate was broken in mineā¦

I’ve done both with and without using my Kick Ash Basket. It doesn’t matter. Still need to adjust vents for temp and airflow anyways.

I did at first but removed it when I realized how much it restricted airflow.

Nope. Better airflow and easier cleanup without the grate. I’m curious why some get a basket and leave the grate in.
