Lechon is huge here in Puerto Rico also. Personally I’d rather have a slow roasted turkey on an open fire but tradition you know…

Spit roasted pork and lamb over coal is a tradition among Serbians as well and it is commonly prepared. It is very interesting to see it is being consumed somewhere else in the world, and so far away from Balkans at that.
In rural areas in Serbia, you get to eat this on every major holiday such as Christmas and Easter, on every slava (a predominately Serbian thing, it is a celebration of the patron saint of the family for which a feast is prepared and family/friends is invited to partake in the feast), and in general any celebration such as weddings, and to a lesser degree, birthdays.
I cannot tell from the picture due to the angle, but this piggie is rather small and no heavier than 15-20 kg. In Serbia we typically spit roast pork over coal with the average weight of the pig about 25-28kg. Depending on personal taste, they come in as small as 18kg, but can also go up to 45 kg (typically served in a type of restaurant locally called “kafana”, as it is the most efficient way to prepare and sell spit roasted pork). The taste really varies depending on the weight and the age of the pig and connoisseurs typically prefer the younger/slimmer as the taste of the meat is stronger and not toned down by fat, although meat with some fat on it is also great and preferred by the common folk.
