Bought a new house and am looking to put some grills on the 2F deck. A friend of mine w a big Joe says not to put it here as lots of smoke would get into the house and grease will build up on the walls, I should put it on the lawn below instead. I was going to put it in the far corner on the 2F deck. The sliding door leads to the living / dining room / kitchen. The deck at the widest is 14 feet. Am planning on putting a folding awning on the I-beams. Good/bad idea to do place it here?

Fyi – my first house, so my first outdoor grill. But I grew up in bbq country so hope it’s in my blood.

First off – house looks awesome – congrats!

Personal opinion, it should be fine if you keep the doors closed. Regarding exact positioning, my understanding is that the wind should not flow into the KJ vents as that increases burn rates and risk of flare ups.

Longer answer, smoke is horrible in the house, definitely keep that out. However, once you are at temperatur the smoke normally decreases / is not noticeable (caveat: grease flare ups, but that should not be the norm). Hence, depending on how and what you grill grease build up should also not be the norm (not quite sure what your friend is cooking and how). Our grill station is also under an awning and has less wind movement and we have noticed no grease build up since it got in there two years ago (and I normally have it going 2-3x a week).
