This juicy and delicious BBQ chicken recipe baked in the oven is so good and so easy to make for dinner any night of the week. Nothing says home cooking dinner like super tender BBQ chicken out of the oven! This version of a classic indoor BBQ chicken is the perfect (mostly) hands-off protein for a weekday night that everyone is sure to love; kids and adults alike. I like to use bone-in, skin on chicken leg quarters (thigh and drumstick together) but feel free to use any bone-in, skin on chicken cut.

Golden BBQ Chicken
Prep time: 10 min
Cook time: 50-60 min
Total time: 60-70 min

EQUIPMENT

• large mixing bowl or aluminum tray
• sheet pan with raised grate

• small saucepan

• Aluminum foil (optional) – for easy clean up

INGREDIENTS
Protein

• 3-4 chicken leg quarters (bone-in, skin on, thigh & drumstick together)

Chicken Seasoning
• 1-2 tsp Chef Ange Base Seasoning ( https://youtu.be/1Yt_jN1tDfY )
• ½ – 1 tsp Smoked paprika
• 1-2 tsp extra virgin olive oil

Golden BBQ sauce
• 2/3 cup ketchup
• 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

• 1-2 tbsp worchestershire sauce
• 1-2 tbsp honey or brown sugar

• 1-2 tbsp spicy brown mustard
• 1-2 tbsp Dijon mustard
• 2 tsp Chef Ange Base seasoning – ( https://youtu.be/1Yt_jN1tDfY )
• 1 tsp smoked paprika

DIRECTIONS

1. Preheat oven to 375F convection oven / 390F regular oven
2. In a large mixing bowl or aluminum tray, evenly coat chicken with base seasoning, smoked paprika and olive oil.
3. Arrange chicken skin side up on a baking sheet with a raised grate. (Optional: Line the sheet with aluminum foil to save on clean up)
4. Cook for 20 minutes skin side up then flip and cook for another 20 minutes skin side down. Flip again and cook skin side up for 10-15 more minutes or until the skin is golden brown. Remove from oven and increase heat to 385 F convection / 400F regular oven
5. While chicken is cooking in oven, in a small sauce pan mix all of the BBQ sauce ingredients. Bring to warm and simmer and stir for a few minutes. (Skip this step by just using store bought BBQ sauce and mixing in some brown mustard. Really, it’s fine! There are some really good BBQ sauces out there.)
6. After 50-55 minutes of cooking, remove chicken from oven. Skin side should be up and brush with BBQ sauce. Don’t overcoat with sauce. Just a nice light and even layer. Put back in hotter oven for 5-10 minutes. Be sure to pay attention and reduce heat or remove from oven if you see the sauce starting to burn!
7. After cooking is done, spoon a little more sauce on the chicken and brush evenly. Let cool for 2-3 minutes and transfer to a serving plate.

[Music] hi I’m chef and look at my kitchen today’s episode we’re gonna be making one of my favorite weekday proteins a golden barbecue chicken with just some simple seasoning and some ingredients you already have lying around the house we’re gonna make a homemade barbecue sauce and make this chicken in the oven from start to finish for barbecue chicken I really like chicken leg quarters so chicken leg quarters are a thigh with the drumstick attached you can make this recipe with just thighs just drumsticks you can even do with a chicken breast bone-in skin-on but any bone-in skin-on chicken cut is gonna be really great for this recipe so I’ve already preheated my oven to 375 degrees it’s on a convection setting if you don’t have a convection oven just maybe a little higher like 385 390 that will work for an initial setting so what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna season the chicken take our chicken and we’re gonna throw it inside of a bowl so now we’re gonna season our chicken with just a little olive oil this is my base seasoning so if you don’t know what my Bay seasoning is it’s a blend of garlic powder onion powder salt and pepper I put this on a lot of stuff I’m gonna put this in here I’m also gonna put it inside the barbecue sauce and if you don’t know what the exact ratios are you can go check out my episode 5 so I’m gonna put a nice hefty liberals dose on there and then I’m also gonna take some smoked paprika and we’re gonna throw that add some color and also add a nice smoky flavor you can see that I’m not measuring I’m just estimating in the description you’ll see that I’ll have some some estimate amounts you figure it out you figure out how much you want to put in what but I’m gonna take this I’m gonna make sure that I’m nicely coating the chicken I’m gonna rub the skin to make sure that the spices are evenly coated and sometimes I like team and take the chicken and rub them together that’s gonna help cope all the chicken evenly also pick up any spices that are inside the bowl but we’re just trying to get a nice even coating on all the chicken and that’s just best done by hand you can use gloves or you can just wash your hands after you’re done I don’t like using gloves but I think it’s very wasteful so I just wash my hands after I’m done not to waste any spices clean that bowl with the pieces of chicken pick up any any loose spices that are in there and make sure you’re getting both sides so now for a baking sheet we’re using a raised grate and I’ve lined my baking sheet with aluminum foil to raise rates and I’ll allow the the air to get underneath so the chickens not sitting and cooking directly on something but the bottom is gonna be able to get some good crisp eNOS – but we’re gonna start this skin side up so I’m gonna place the chicken on my baking sheet make sure it’s all nice and even we got two left’s and right here so that’s pretty good I want to make sure that I’m not crowding the chicken and there’s space in between so that the air can blow around the chicken gets crispy on the outside and doesn’t get soggy so now I’m gonna take this I’m gonna put this in my preheated oven for about 20 minutes then I’m gonna flip it I’m gonna cook it for another 20 minutes then I’m gonna flick it back over and cook it for another 10 but let’s get it in there so we can get moving on our barbecue sauce so while our chicken is cooking in the oven we’re gonna make our barbecue sauce we’re gonna make it right on the stove we just need a small little saucepan I’m actually gonna keep the heat off for now while I add my ingredients then I’m gonna turn the heat up a little bit just to warm it okay so we’re gonna start off with a little ketchup don’t say that’s about like two-thirds of a cup now from here we’re gonna put a splash of apple cider vinegar and here we’re gonna put a couple heavy dashes or were sister sauce so we’re all gonna soul gonna put the teaspoon of some spicy brown mustard and a little Dijon mustard and in my last video I got crushed for not measuring everything out I usually don’t measure so I want to show people this is how I cook at home so now we’re gonna put a little honey and now we’re gonna add some spices so for spices we’re gonna put some ancho chili powder and again I’m not measuring just estimating we’re also going to throw in that smoked paprika that we put on top of the chicken we’re gonna put that in the sauce as well and then from here we’re gonna put little base seasoning that’s got salt pepper garlic powder onion powder so now I’m gonna turn the heat on probably like medium-low because I just need to bring this up the temp and let this cook together but I’m gonna use my spoon just keep stirring a little bit more of a golden color than the normal barbecue sauce and then I don’t have to get this to boiling I just got to get it to hot and that’s just gonna help pull all the flavors together because there’s also a lot of sugar in here from the ketchup and from the honey this can easily burn on the bottom of the saucepan if I have the temperature too hot or I cook it for too long and you can see it has a already a nice consistency that’s just a little bit thinner than ketchup and this is gonna make sure that it goes spreads nicely on the chicken [Music] give this a little taste that’s wonderful so now we don’t need to do much more to this it’s already nice and warm so we’re just gonna wait until we cook our chicken so our chickens cooking for about 20 minutes you can see that it’s already taken on a nice golden color on the outside so now what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna flip each piece [Music] awesome so now we’re gonna cook for another 20 minutes with the skin side down so now we just finished 20 minutes skin side down so this is gonna go final flip and we’re gonna cook for another 10 or 15 minutes till we get a nice golden-brown color on the top and you can see because the skin was cooking down all the fat started dripping all over the chicken and that’s gonna give us a nice golden-brown color on the skin without having to add any more oil that was in there for another 15 minutes you can see that the skin is nicely golden brown on the outside so I’m gonna take our barbecue sauce here and I’m gonna spoon it over the top of each piece [Music] and now we’re gonna use a little brush to spread it around you don’t really have to use much more than that just enough to get nice even coating do you want to put more sauce after you can but a spoonful on top of each one is plenty and you can reserve the extra barbecue sauce and use it just like you would barbecue sauce that looks perfect nice evenly coated that’s going to go back in the oven just a little bit on top of the skin [Music] [Music] fantastic nice and golden barbecue on the outside we let the school down for a minute and I’m going to give it a taste [Music] so we cut into a drumstick right there nice juicy chicken set that down I don’t want to burn my mouth you got a design in the bite you got to get some chicken on there little skin that’s so good don’t forget to subscribe to my channel leave comments and I’ll see you in my next episode thanks

  1. Nice recipe .dont worry about people complaining about " measurements" …this is cooking not baking

  2. At 8:30 you put the chicken in, and at 8:42 you took the chicken out. They went in differently than they came out. What's going on here?

  3. You inspired me to make this Golden BBQ chicken! Must be tasty with the BBQ sauce! thank you!

  4. That’s how I cook too. I don’t measure everything. In my opinion, measuring everything is for amateurs. Just saying. Don’t hate 😜

  5. I like the simplicity of your recipes, and with all those spices, I know there’s a lot of flavor going on there. I just came across your Chanel yesterday and am sharing with my son. Any plan for a soup? Maybe something with butternut squash which I bake all the time. In the meantime, chicken & meatballs on my menu. Thank you🧑🏻‍🍳

  6. Really? People whined cuz you don’t measure ingredients? My mom didn’t even own measuring cups and spoons and she was the best cook i ever seen! Keep cookin buddy… i’m gettin it!

  7. Thank you. I have been reviewing home made barbecue sauces which contain honey. I think yours plus or minus some ingredients and ill have what i am seeking. Thanks again
